“Zion said, ‘The Lord has abandoned me, the sovereign master ¹  has forgotten me.’

My heart beats quickly; my strength leaves me; I can hardly see. ¹ 

For innumerable dangers ¹  surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me. ² 

I will do so because these people ¹  have rejected me and have defiled ²  this place. They have offered sacrifices in it to other gods which neither they nor their ancestors ³  nor the kings of Judah knew anything about. They have filled it with the blood of innocent children. ⁴
