They went out and proclaimed everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the accompanying signs.]]

Now ¹  King Herod ²  heard this, for Jesus’ ³  name had become known. Some ⁴  were saying, “John the baptizer ⁵  has been raised from the dead, and because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.”

It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves ¹  in charge, assigning ²  to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.

He was not able to do a miracle there, except to lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.

But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, because no one who does a miracle in my name will be able soon afterward to say anything bad about me.

But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a good service for me.

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue. ¹  Many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did he get these ideas? ²  And what is this wisdom that has been given to him? What are these miracles that are done through his hands?

So ¹  the Pharisees ²  said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?”

For false messiahs ¹  and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, the elect.

Now ¹  while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s slave girls ²  came by.
