You will destroy the family of your master Ahab. ¹  I will get revenge against Jezebel for the shed blood of my servants the prophets and for the shed blood of all the Lord’s servants. ² 

So he sent a second horseman out to them ¹  and he said, “This is what the king says, ‘Is everything all right?’” ²  Jehu replied, “None of your business! Follow me.”

When they went back and told him, he said, “The Lord’s word through his servant, Elijah the Tishbite, has come to pass. He warned, ¹  ‘In the plot of land at Jezreel, dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh.

The royal bodyguard ¹  took their stations, each holding his weapon in his hand. They lined up from the south side of the temple to the north side and stood near the altar and the temple, surrounding the king. ² 

To this very day they observe their earlier practices. They do not worship ¹  the Lord; they do not obey the rules, regulations, law, and commandments that the Lord gave ²  the descendants of Jacob, whom he renamed Israel.

Don’t let Hezekiah talk you into trusting in the Lord when he says, “The Lord will certainly rescue us; this city will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”

Yet he persisted in ¹  the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who encouraged Israel to sin; he did not turn from them. ² 

The Moabites ¹  said, “It’s blood! The kings are totally destroyed! ²  They have struck one another down! Now, Moab, seize the plunder!”

One day Elisha ¹  came for a visit; he went ²  into the upper room and rested. ³ 

The boy grew and one day he went out to see his father who was with the harvest workers. ¹ 

She came in, fell at his feet, and bowed down. Then she picked up her son and left.

Jehu ¹  said, “Come with me and see how zealous I am for the Lord’s cause.” ²  So he ³  took him along in his chariot.

Jehu assembled all the people and said to them, “Ahab worshiped ¹  Baal a little; Jehu will worship ²  him with great devotion. ³ 

In those days the Lord began to reduce the size of Israel’s territory. ¹  Hazael attacked their eastern border. ² 

They did not audit the treasurers who disbursed ¹  the funds to the foremen, for they were honest. ² 

But they did not pay attention and were as stubborn as their ancestors, ¹  who had not trusted the Lord their God.

The Israelites followed in the sinful ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat and did not repudiate ¹  them.

He was loyal to ¹  the Lord and did not abandon him. ²  He obeyed the commandments which the Lord had given to ³  Moses.

He will go back the way he came. He will not enter this city,” says the Lord.

But he ¹  left behind some of the poor of the land and gave them fields and vineyards.
