<p class="bodytext">That very night the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s messenger went out and killed 185,000 men in the Assyrian camp. When they<n id="1" /> got up early the next morning, there were all the corpses.<n id="2" />

The king of Babylon deported to Babylon all the soldiers (there were 7,000), as well as 1,000 craftsmen and metal workers. This included all the best warriors.<n id="1" />

While Gehazi<n id="1" /> was telling the king how Elisha<n id="2" /> had brought the dead back to life, the woman whose son he had brought back to life came to ask the king for her house and field.<n id="3" /> Gehazi said, &#8220;My master, O king, this is the very woman and this is her son whom Elisha brought back to life!&#8221;

So the horseman<n id="1" /> went to meet him and said, &#8220;This is what the king says, &#8216;Is everything all right?&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" /> Jehu replied, &#8220;None of your business!<n id="3" /> Follow me.&#8221; The watchman reported, &#8220;The messenger reached them, but hasn&#8217;t started back.&#8221;

So Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah&#8217;s son Joash and sneaked<n id="1" /> him away from the rest of the royal descendants who were to be executed. She hid him and his nurse in the room where the bed covers were stored.<n id="2" /> So he was hidden from Athaliah and escaped execution.<n id="3" />

The enemy broke through the city walls,<n id="1" /> and all the soldiers tried to escape. They left the city during the night.<n id="2" /> They went through the gate between the two walls that is near the king&#8217;s garden.<n id="3" /> (The Babylonians were all around the city.) Then they headed for the Jordan Valley.<n id="4" />

But the prophet sent this message to the king of Israel, &#8220;Make sure you don&#8217;t pass through this place because Syria is invading there.&#8221;

When you arrive there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi and take him aside into an inner room.<n id="1" />

Each of them quickly took off his cloak and they spread them out at Jehu&#8217;s<n id="1" /> feet on the steps.<n id="2" /> The trumpet was blown<n id="3" /> and they shouted, &#8220;Jehu is<n id="4" /> king!&#8221;

The watchman reported, &#8220;He reached them, but hasn&#8217;t started back. The one who drives the lead chariot drives like Jehu son of Nimshi;<n id="1" /> he drives recklessly.&#8221;

Jehu aimed his bow and shot an arrow right between Jehoram&#8217;s shoulders.<n id="1" /> The arrow went through<n id="2" /> his heart and he fell to his knees in his chariot.

Then Jehu killed all who were left of Ahab&#8217;s family in Jezreel, and all his nobles, close friends, and priests. He left no survivors.p>

Certainly you will not refuse one of my master&#8217;s minor officials and trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen.<n id="1" />

The king ordered Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Acbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king&#8217;s servant,

Then she saw<n id="1" /> the king standing by the pillar, according to custom. The officers stood beside the king with their trumpets and all the people of the land were celebrating and blowing trumpets. Athaliah tore her clothes and screamed, &#8220;Treason, treason!&#8221;<n id="2" />

He put an idol of Asherah he had made in the temple, about which the <sc>Lordsc> had said to David and to his son Solomon, &#8220;This temple in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will be my permanent home.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">He died just as the <sc>Lordsc> had prophesied through Elijah.<n id="1" /> In the second year of the reign of King Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat over Judah, Ahaziah&#8217;s brother Jehoram replaced him as king of Israel, because he had no son.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">He went up from there to Bethel.<n id="1" /> As he was traveling up the road, some young boys<n id="2" /> came out of the city and made fun of him, saying, &#8220;Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!&#8221;

When the king of Moab realized he was losing the battle,<n id="1" /> he and 700 swordsmen tried to break through and attack<n id="2" /> the king of Edom, but they failed.

The stew was poured out<n id="1" /> for the men to eat. When they ate some of the stew, they cried out, &#8220;Death is in the pot, O prophet!&#8221; They could not eat it.
