But Stephen,<n id="1" /> full<n id="2" /> of the Holy Spirit, looked intently<n id="3" /> toward heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing<n id="4" /> at the right hand of God.

For unclean spirits,<n id="1" /> crying with loud shrieks, were coming out of many who were possessed,<n id="2" /> and many paralyzed and lame people were healed.

<p class="bodytext">Now Simon, when he saw that the Spirit<n id="1" /> was given through the laying on of the apostles&#8217; hands, offered them money,

saying, &#8220;Give me this power<n id="1" /> too, so that everyone I place my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on<n id="1" /> all those who heard the message.<n id="2" />

The<n id="1" /> circumcised believers<n id="2" /> who had accompanied Peter were greatly astonished<n id="3" /> that<n id="4" /> the gift of the Holy Spirit<n id="5" /> had been poured out<n id="6" /> even on the Gentiles,

&#8220;No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did,<n id="1" /> can he?&#8221;<n id="2" />

Then as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on<n id="1" /> them just as he did<n id="2" /> on us at the beginning.<n id="3" />

And I remembered the word of the Lord,<n id="1" /> as he used to say,<n id="2" /> &#8216;John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.&#8217;<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">They went through the region of Phrygia<n id="1" /> and Galatia,<n id="2" /> having been prevented<n id="3" /> by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message<n id="4" /> in the province of Asia.<n id="5" />

When they came to<n id="1" /> Mysia,<n id="2" /> they attempted to go into Bithynia,<n id="3" /> but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow<n id="4" /> them to do this,<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">While Paul was waiting for them in Athens,<n id="1" /> his spirit was greatly upset<n id="2" /> because he saw<n id="3" /> the city was full of idols.

and when Paul placed<n id="1" /> his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came<n id="2" /> upon them, and they began to speak<n id="3" /> in tongues and to prophesy.<n id="4" />

But the evil spirit replied to them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I know about Jesus<n id="2" /> and I am acquainted with<n id="3" /> Paul, but who are you?&#8221;<n id="4" />

And now,<n id="1" /> compelled<n id="2" /> by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem<n id="3" /> without knowing what will happen to me there,<n id="4" />

After we located<n id="1" /> the disciples, we stayed there<n id="2" /> seven days. They repeatedly told<n id="3" /> Paul through the Spirit<n id="4" /> not to set foot<n id="5" /> in Jerusalem.<n id="6" />

but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart<n id="1" /> by the Spirit<n id="2" /> and not by the written code.<n id="3" /> This person&#8217;s<n id="4" /> praise is not from people but from God.p>

And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God<n id="1" /> has been poured out<n id="2" /> in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.p>

But now we have been released from the law, because we have died<n id="1" /> to what controlled us, so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit and not under the old written code.<n id="2" />p>

For the law of the life-giving Spirit<n id="1" /> in Christ Jesus has set you<n id="2" /> free from the law of sin and death.
