He<n id="1" /> did not give any of it to him for an inheritance,<n id="2" /> not even a foot of ground,<n id="3" /> yet God<n id="4" /> promised <i>to give it to him as his possession, and to his descendants after himi>,<n id="5" /> even though Abraham<n id="6" /> as yet had no child.

<b><i>I have certainly seen the sufferingi>b><n id="1" /> <b><i>of my people who are in Egypt andi>b> <i><b>have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue themb>.i><n id="2" /> <b><i>Nowi>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>come, I will send you to Egypti>b>.&#8217;<n id="4" />

This same<n id="1" /> Moses they had rejected, saying, &#8216;<b><i>Who made you a ruler and judge?i>b>&#8217;<n id="2" /> God sent as both ruler and deliverer<n id="3" /> through the hand of the angel<n id="4" /> who appeared to him in the bush.

Our ancestors<n id="1" /> had the tabernacle<n id="2" /> of testimony in the wilderness,<n id="3" /> just as God<n id="4" /> who spoke to Moses ordered him<n id="5" /> to make it according to the design he had seen.

Our<n id="1" /> ancestors<n id="2" /> received possession of it and brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our ancestors,<n id="3" /> until the time<n id="4" /> of David.

Then the Lord told him, &#8220;Get up and go to the street called &#8216;Straight,&#8217;<n id="1" /> and at Judas&#8217; house look for a man from Tarsus named Saul. For he is praying,

All<n id="1" /> who heard him were amazed and were saying, &#8220;Is this not<n id="2" /> the man who in Jerusalem was ravaging<n id="3" /> those who call on this name, and who had come here to bring them as prisoners<n id="4" /> to the chief priests?&#8221;

Because Lydda<n id="1" /> was near Joppa, when the disciples heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him and urged him, &#8220;Come to us without delay.&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Now while Peter was puzzling over<n id="1" /> what the vision he had seen could signify, the men sent by Cornelius had learned where Simon&#8217;s house was<n id="2" /> and approached<n id="3" /> the gate.

He informed us how he had seen an angel standing in his house and saying, &#8216;Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,

When<n id="1" /> Peter came to himself, he said, &#8220;Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued<n id="2" /> me from the hand<n id="3" /> of Herod<n id="4" /> and from everything the Jewish people<n id="5" /> were expecting to happen.&#8221;p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now there were these prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch:<n id="1" /> Barnabas, Simeon called Niger,<n id="2" /> Lucius the Cyrenian,<n id="3" /> Manaen (a close friend of Herod<n id="4" /> the tetrarch<n id="5" /> from childhood<n id="6" />) and Saul.

After the reading from the law and the prophets,<n id="1" /> the leaders of the synagogue<n id="2" /> sent them a message,<n id="3" /> saying, &#8220;Brothers,<n id="4" /> if you have any message<n id="5" /> of exhortation<n id="6" /> for the people, speak it.&#8221;<n id="7" />

For the people who live in Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize<n id="1" /> him,<n id="2" /> and they fulfilled the sayings<n id="3" /> of the prophets that are read every Sabbath by condemning<n id="4" /> him.<n id="5" />

<p class="bodytext">The whole group kept quiet<n id="1" /> and listened to Barnabas and Paul while they explained all the miraculous signs<n id="2" /> and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.

<p class="bodytext">Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided<n id="1" /> to send men chosen from among them, Judas called Barsabbas and Silas,<n id="2" /> leaders among the brothers, to Antioch<n id="3" /> with Paul and Barnabas.

<t /><p class="bodytext">After some days Paul said to Barnabas, &#8220;Let&#8217;s return<n id="1" /> and visit the brothers in every town where we proclaimed the word of the Lord<n id="2" /> to see how they are doing.&#8221;<n id="3" />

Paul wanted Timothy<n id="1" /> to accompany him, and he took<n id="2" /> him and circumcised<n id="3" /> him because of the Jews who were in those places,<n id="4" /> for they all knew that his father was Greek.<n id="5" />

She continued to do this for many days. But Paul became greatly annoyed,<n id="1" /> and turned<n id="2" /> and said to the spirit, &#8220;I command you in the name of Jesus Christ<n id="3" /> to come out of her!&#8221; And it came out of her at once.<n id="4" />
