The Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of wood and stone.

for I know about your rebellion and stubbornness. ¹  Indeed, even while I have been living among you to this very day, you have rebelled against the Lord; you will be even more rebellious after my death! ² 

He delivered us from there so that he could give us the land he had promised our ancestors.

Furthermore, the Lord your God will release hornets ¹  among them until the very last ones who hide from you ²  perish.

So you must keep his ¹  commandments, live according to his standards, ²  and revere him.

Moreover, he said to me, “I have taken note of these people; they are a stubborn ¹  lot!

I grabbed the two tablets, threw them down, ¹  and shattered them before your very eyes.

You must not do like we are doing here today, with everyone ¹  doing what seems best to him,

He must eat the same share they do, despite any profits he may gain from the sale of his family’s inheritance. ¹ 

If a person commits a sin punishable by death and is executed, and you hang the corpse ¹  on a tree,

You must build the altar of the Lord your God with whole stones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God.

That is why the Lord’s anger erupted against this land, bringing on it all the curses ¹  written in this scroll.

The Lord appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud that ¹  stood above the door of the tent.

So Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab as the Lord had said.

Keep his statutes and commandments that I am setting forth ¹  today so that it may go well with you and your descendants and that you may enjoy longevity in the land that the Lord your God is about to give you as a permanent possession.

Understand today that the Lord your God who goes before you is a devouring fire; he will defeat and subdue them before you. You will dispossess and destroy them quickly just as he ¹  has told you.

Be careful lest you entertain the wicked thought that the seventh year, the year of cancellation of debts, has almost arrived, and your attitude ¹  be wrong toward your impoverished fellow Israelite ²  and you do not lend ³  him anything; he will cry out to the Lord against you and you will be regarded as having sinned. ⁴ 

The Lord your God will make the labor of your hands ¹  abundantly successful and multiply your children, ²  the offspring of your cattle, and the produce of your soil. For the Lord your God will once more ³  rejoice over you to make you prosperous ⁴  just as he rejoiced over your ancestors,

The Lord said to me, “Look! I have already begun to give over Sihon and his land to you. Start right now to take his land as your possession.”

You approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, a mountain ablaze to the sky above it ¹  and yet dark with a thick cloud. ²
