and declared, &#8220;This man<n id="1" /> said, &#8216;I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.&#8217;&#8221;

Then the high priest tore his clothes and declared,<n id="1" /> &#8220;He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Now<n id="2" /> you have heard the blasphemy!

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A<n id="1" /> slave girl<n id="2" /> came to him and said, &#8220;You also were with Jesus the Galilean.&#8221;

When<n id="1" /> he went out to the gateway, another slave girl<n id="2" /> saw him and said to the people there, &#8220;This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.&#8221;

The<n id="1" /> chief priests took the silver and said, &#8220;It is not lawful to put this into the temple treasury, since it is blood money.&#8221;

So after they had assembled, Pilate said to them, &#8220;Whom do you want me to release for you, Jesus<n id="1" /> Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Christ?&#8221;<n id="2" />

The<n id="1" /> governor asked them, &#8220;Which of the two do you want me to release for you?&#8221; And they said, &#8220;Barabbas!&#8221;

But<n id="1" /> Jesus met them, saying, &#8220;Greetings!&#8221; They<n id="2" /> came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him.

Then Jesus said to them, &#8220;Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.&#8221;p>

Then Jesus came up and said to them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

He said, &#8220;Yes.&#8221; When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,<n id="1" /> &#8220;What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings collect tolls or taxes &#8211; from their sons<n id="2" /> or from foreigners?&#8221;

He stayed there until Herod<n id="1" /> died. In this way what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet was fulfilled: &#8220;<b><i>I called my Son out of Egypti>b>.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

saying, &#8220;Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child&#8217;s life are dead.&#8221;

For he is the one about whom Isaiah the prophet had spoken:<n id="1" />p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<b><i>The voicei>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>of one shouting in the wilderness,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8216;<b><i>Prepare the way for the Lord, makei>b><n id="3" /> <i><b>his paths straightb>.i>&#8217;&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

and said to him, &#8220;If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, &#8216;<b><i>He will command his angels concerning youi>b>&#8217;<n id="1" /> and &#8216;<b><i>with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stonei>b>.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">As<n id="1" /> he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).<n id="2" />

I<n id="1" /> tell you the truth,<n id="2" /> until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter<n id="3" /> will pass from the law until everything takes place.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law<n id="1" /> and the Pharisees,<n id="2" /> you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.p>

But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.p>

Thus whenever you do charitable giving,<n id="1" /> do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues<n id="2" /> and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth,<n id="3" /> they have their reward.
