As it says,<n id="1" /> &#8220;<i><b>Ohb>, <b>that today you would listen as he speaks!b>i><n id="2" /> <b><i>Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellioni>b>.&#8221;<n id="3" />

<i><b>But my righteous one will live by faithb>, <b>and if he shrinks backb>, <b>Ib>i><n id="1" /> <b><i>take no pleasure in himi>b>.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">What good is it, my brothers and sisters,<n id="1" /> if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can this kind of faith<n id="2" /> save him?<n id="3" />

If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking<n id="1" /> in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing<n id="2" /> the truth.

But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous,<n id="1" /> forgiving<n id="2" /> us our sins and cleansing<n id="3" /> us from all unrighteousness.

If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.

(My little children,<n id="1" /> I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.<n id="2" />) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate<n id="3" /> with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One,<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,

<t /><p class="bodytext">And now, little children, remain<n id="1" /> in him,<n id="2" /> so that when<n id="3" /> he appears we may have confidence and not shrink away from him in shame when he comes back.<n id="4" />

that<n id="1" /> if our conscience condemns<n id="2" /> us, that<n id="3" /> God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

and<n id="1" /> whatever we ask we receive from him, because<n id="2" /> we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing to him.

No one has seen God at any time.<n id="1" /> If we love one another, God resides<n id="2" /> in us, and his love is perfected in us.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">If anyone<n id="1" /> confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides<n id="2" /> in him and he in God.

<p class="bodytext">And this is the confidence that we have before him: that<n id="1" /> whenever<n id="2" /> we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

Look! I am throwing her onto a bed of violent illness,<n id="1" /> and those who commit adultery with her into terrible suffering,<n id="2" /> unless they repent of her deeds.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;You are the salt<n id="1" /> of the earth. But if salt loses its flavor,<n id="2" /> how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law<n id="1" /> and the Pharisees,<n id="2" /> you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.p>

But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.p>

But if your eye is diseased,<n id="1" /> your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!p>

All things have been handed over to me by my Father.<n id="1" /> No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son decides<n id="2" /> to reveal him.
