<p class="poetry">It will be<n id="1" /> a day of dreadful darkness,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">a day of foreboding storm clouds,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">like blackness<n id="4" /> spread over the mountains.p> <p class="poetry">It is a huge and powerful army<n id="5" /> &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">there has never been anything like it ever before,p> <p class="poetry">and there will not be anything like it for many generations to come!<n id="6" />p>

The <sc>Lordsc> said to me, &#8220;What do you see, Amos?&#8221; I said, &#8220;Tin.&#8221; The sovereign One then said,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Look, I am about to place tin among my people Israel.p> <p class="poetry">I will no longer overlook their sin.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">He said, &#8220;What do you see, Amos?&#8221; I replied, &#8220;A basket of summer fruit.&#8221; Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to me, &#8220;The end<n id="1" /> has come for my people Israel! I will no longer overlook their sins.<n id="2" />p>

A herald is running<n id="2" /> on the mountains!p> <p class="poetry">A messenger is proclaiming deliverance:<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Celebrate your sacred festivals, O Judah!p> <p class="poetry">Fulfill your sacred vows to praise God!<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">For never again<n id="5" /> will the wicked<n id="6" /> Assyrians<n id="7" /> invade<n id="8" /> you,p> <p class="poetry">they<n id="9" /> have been completely destroyed.&#8221;<n id="10" />p>

<p class="poetry">In that day you<n id="1" /> will not be ashamed of all your rebelliousness against me,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">for then I will remove from your midst those who proudly boast,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">and you will never again be arrogant on my holy hill.p>

know for certain that the <sc>Lordsc> our God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. They will trap and ensnare you;<n id="1" /> they will be a whip that tears<n id="2" /> your sides and thorns that blind<n id="3" /> your eyes until you disappear<n id="4" /> from this good land the <sc>Lordsc> your God gave you.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">The Israelites again did evil in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s sight.<n id="1" /> They worshiped<n id="2" /> the Baals and the Ashtars,<n id="3" /> as well as the gods of Syria, Sidon,<n id="4" /> Moab, the Ammonites, and the Philistines.<n id="5" /> They abandoned the <sc>Lordsc> and did not worship<n id="6" /> him.
