<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt; after that he will release you from this place. When he releases you,<n id="2" /> he will drive you out completely<n id="3" /> from this place.

<p class="bodytext">(Now the <sc>Lordsc> granted the people favor with<n id="1" /> the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, respected by Pharaoh&#8217;s servants and by the Egyptian people.)<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to the people, &#8220;Remember<n id="1" /> this day on which you came out from Egypt, from the place where you were enslaved,<n id="2" /> for the <sc>Lordsc> brought you out of there<n id="3" /> with a mighty hand &#8211; and no bread made with yeast may be eaten.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph<n id="1" /> had made the Israelites solemnly swear,<n id="2" /> &#8220;God will surely attend<n id="3" /> to you, and you will carry<n id="4" /> my bones up from this place with you.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to the people, &#8220;Do not fear!<n id="1" /> Stand firm<n id="2" /> and see<n id="3" /> the salvation<n id="4" /> of the <sc>Lordsc> that he will provide<n id="5" /> for you today; for the Egyptians that you see today you will never, ever see again.<n id="6" />

Moses stretched out his hand toward the sea, and the <sc>Lordsc> drove the sea apart<n id="1" /> by a strong east wind all that night, and he made the sea into dry land, and the water was divided.

So Moses extended his hand toward the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state<n id="1" /> when the sun began to rise.<n id="2" /> Now the Egyptians were fleeing<n id="3" /> before it, but the <sc>Lordsc> overthrew<n id="4" /> the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Then Moses and the Israelites sang<n id="2" /> this song to the <sc>Lordsc>. They said,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;I will sing<n id="4" /> to the <sc>Lord,sc> for he has triumphed gloriously,<n id="5" />p> <p class="poetry">the horse and its rider<n id="6" /> he has thrown into the sea.p>

<p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;I am going to rain<n id="1" /> bread from heaven for you, and the people will go out<n id="2" /> and gather the amount for each day, so that I may test them.<n id="3" /> Will they will walk in my law<n id="4" /> or not?

<p class="bodytext">Moses said, &#8220;You will know this<n id="1" /> when the <sc>Lordsc> gives you<n id="2" /> meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy you, because the <sc>Lordsc> has heard your murmurings that you are murmuring against him. As for us, what are we?<n id="3" /> Your murmurings are not against us,<n id="4" /> but against the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8221;p>

When<n id="1" /> the Israelites saw it, they said to one another,<n id="2" /> &#8220;What is it?&#8221; because they did not know what it was.<n id="3" /> Moses said to them, &#8220;It is the bread<n id="4" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> has given you for food.<n id="5" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Moses said, &#8220;This is what<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> has commanded: &#8216;Fill an omer with it to be kept<n id="2" /> for generations to come,<n id="3" /> so that they may see<n id="4" /> the food I fed you in the desert when I brought you out from the land of Egypt.&#8217;&#8221;

But the people were very thirsty<n id="1" /> there for water, and they murmured against Moses and said, &#8220;Why in the world<n id="2" /> did you bring us up out of Egypt &#8211; to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Go over before the people;<n id="1" /> take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile and go.

I will be standing<n id="1" /> before you there on<n id="2" /> the rock in Horeb, and you will strike<n id="3" /> the rock, and water will come out of it so that the people may drink.&#8221;<n id="4" /> And Moses did so in plain view<n id="5" /> of the elders of Israel.p>

So Moses said to Joshua, &#8220;Choose some of our<n id="1" /> men and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.&#8221;p>

When<n id="1" /> the hands of Moses became heavy,<n id="2" /> they took a stone and put it under him, and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other,<n id="3" /> and so his hands were steady<n id="4" /> until the sun went down.

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Write this as a memorial in the<n id="1" /> book, and rehearse<n id="2" /> it in Joshua&#8217;s hearing;<n id="3" /> for I will surely wipe out<n id="4" /> the remembrance<n id="5" /> of Amalek from under heaven.

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses&#8217; father-in-law, heard about all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, that<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc> had brought Israel out of Egypt.<n id="3" />p>

Moses told his father-in-law all that the <sc>Lordsc> had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt for Israel&#8217;s sake, and all the hardship<n id="1" /> that had come on them<n id="2" /> along the way, and how<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> had delivered them.p>
