When Hadadezer’s subjects saw they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and became his subjects. The Arameans were no longer willing to help the Ammonites.p>

David took the crown from the head of their king<n id="1" /> and wore it<n id="2" /> (its weight was a talent<n id="3" /> of gold and it was set with precious stones). He took a large amount of plunder from the city.

Joab reported to David the number of warriors.<n id="1" /> In all Israel there were 1,100,000<n id="2" /> sword-wielding soldiers; Judah alone had 470,000 sword-wielding soldiers.<n id="3" />

He told them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> your God is with you!<n id="2" /> He has made you secure on every side,<n id="3" /> for he handed over to me the inhabitants of the region<n id="4" /> and the region<n id="5" /> is subdued before the <sc>Lordsc> and his people.

<t /><p class="bodytext">What follows is a list of Israelite family leaders and commanders of units of a thousand and a hundred, as well as their officers who served the king in various matters. Each division was assigned to serve for one month during the year; each consisted of 24,000 men.<n id="1" />p>

So now, in the sight of all Israel, the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s assembly, and in the hearing of our God, I say this:<n id="1" /> Carefully observe<n id="2" /> all the commands of the <sc>Lordsc> your God, so that you may possess this good land and may leave it as a permanent inheritance for your children after you.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;And you, Solomon my son, obey<n id="1" /> the God of your father and serve him with a submissive attitude and a willing spirit,<n id="2" /> for the <sc>Lordsc> examines all minds and understands every motive of one&#8217;s thoughts. If you seek him, he will let you find him,<n id="3" /> but if you abandon him, he will reject you permanently.

<p class="bodytext">David told the entire assembly: &#8220;Praise the <sc>Lordsc> your God!&#8221; So the entire assembly praised the <sc>Lordsc> God of their ancestors; they bowed down and stretched out flat on the ground before the <sc>Lordsc> and the king.p>

The <sc>Lordsc> greatly magnified Solomon before all Israel and bestowed on him greater majesty than any king of Israel before him.<n id="1" />p>

three<n id="1" /> years of famine, or three months being chased by your enemies and struck down by their swords,<n id="2" /> or three days being struck down by the <sc>Lordsc>, during which a plague will invade the land and the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s messenger will destroy throughout Israel&#8217;s territory.&#8217;<n id="3" /> Now, decide what I should tell the one who sent me.&#8221;
