<p class="bodytext">Now the Jewish religious leaders<n id="1" /> refused to believe<n id="2" /> that he had really been blind and had gained his sight until at last they summoned<n id="3" /> the parents of the man who had become able to see.<n id="4" />

They asked the parents,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Is this your son, whom you say<n id="2" /> was born blind? Then how does he now see?&#8221;

So his parents replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.

We know that God doesn&#8217;t listen to<n id="1" /> sinners, but if anyone is devout<n id="2" /> and does his will, God<n id="3" /> listens to<n id="4" /> him.<n id="5" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin,<n id="2" /> but now because you claim that you can see,<n id="3" /> your guilt<n id="4" /> remains.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> the one who does not enter the sheepfold<n id="2" /> by the door,<n id="3" /> but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.

Jesus told them this parable,<n id="1" /> but they<n id="2" /> did not understand<n id="3" /> what he was saying to them.p>

I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and go out,<n id="1" /> and find pasture.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;I am the good<n id="1" /> shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life<n id="2" /> for the sheep.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,<n id="1" /> and no one can snatch<n id="2" /> them from my Father&#8217;s hand.

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;We are not going to stone you for a good deed<n id="3" /> but for blasphemy,<n id="4" /> because<n id="5" /> you, a man, are claiming to be God.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>

do you say about the one whom the Father set apart<n id="1" /> and sent into the world, &#8216;You are blaspheming,&#8217; because I said, &#8216;I am the Son of God&#8217;?

<p class="bodytext">Jesus<n id="1" /> went back across the Jordan River<n id="2" /> again to the place where John<n id="3" /> had been baptizing at an earlier time,<n id="4" /> and he stayed there.

Many<n id="1" /> came to him and began to say, &#8220;John<n id="2" /> performed<n id="3" /> no miraculous sign, but everything John said about this man<n id="4" /> was true!&#8221;

(Now it was Mary who anointed the Lord with perfumed oil<n id="1" /> and wiped his feet dry with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)<n id="2" />

Jesus said to her, &#8220;I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live<n id="1" /> even if he dies,

She replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Yes, Lord, I believe<n id="2" /> that you are the Christ,<n id="3" /> the Son of God who comes into the world.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

(Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still in the place where Martha had come out to meet him.)

<t /><p class="bodytext">Jesus, intensely moved<n id="1" /> again, came to the tomb. (Now it was a cave, and a stone was placed across it.)<n id="2" />

Jesus said, &#8220;Take away the stone.&#8221;<n id="1" /> Martha, the sister of the deceased,<n id="2" /> replied, &#8220;Lord, by this time the body will have a bad smell,<n id="3" /> because he has been buried<n id="4" /> four days.&#8221;<n id="5" />
