God created the great sea creatures<n id="1" /> and every living and moving thing with which the water swarmed, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. God saw that it was good.

<p class="bodytext">But God remembered<n id="1" /> Noah and all the wild animals and domestic animals that were with him in the ark. God caused a wind to blow over<n id="2" /> the earth and the waters receded.

<p class="bodytext">Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (the son of Haran), and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram&#8217;s wife, and with them he set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. When they came to Haran, they settled there.

In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings who were his allies came and defeated<n id="1" /> the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds<n id="1" /> would roll the stone off the mouth of the well and water the sheep. Then they would put the stone back in its place over the well&#8217;s mouth.p>

&#8220;This pile of stones and the pillar are reminders that I will not pass beyond this pile to come to harm you and that you will not pass beyond this pile and this pillar to come to harm me.<n id="1" />

&#8220;These men are at peace with us. So let them live in the land and travel freely in it, for the land is wide enough<n id="1" /> for them. We will take their daughters for wives, and we will give them our daughters to marry.<n id="2" />

So when the Midianite<n id="1" /> merchants passed by, Joseph&#8217;s brothers pulled<n id="2" /> him<n id="3" /> out of the cistern and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites<n id="4" /> then took Joseph to Egypt.p>

<p class="bodytext">On the third day it was Pharaoh&#8217;s birthday, so he gave a feast for all his servants. He &#8220;lifted up&#8221;<n id="1" /> the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker in the midst of his servants.

Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his own hand and put it on Joseph&#8217;s. He clothed him with fine linen<n id="1" /> clothes and put a gold chain around his neck.

But bring your youngest brother back to me so I will know<n id="1" /> that you are honest men and not spies.<n id="2" /> Then I will give your brother back to you and you may move about freely in the land.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

But when they related to him everything Joseph had said to them,<n id="1" /> and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, their father Jacob&#8217;s spirit revived.

But he did not purchase the land of the priests because the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh and they ate from their allotment that Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.p>
