Judah said, &#8220;Let her keep the things<n id="1" /> for herself. Otherwise we will appear to be dishonest.<n id="2" /> I did indeed send this young goat, but you couldn&#8217;t find her.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">After three months Judah was told,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Your daughter-in-law Tamar has turned to prostitution,<n id="2" /> and as a result she has become pregnant.&#8221;<n id="3" /> Judah said, &#8220;Bring her out and let her be burned!&#8221;

Judah recognized them and said, &#8220;She is more upright<n id="1" /> than I am, because I wouldn&#8217;t give her to Shelah my son.&#8221; He did not have sexual relations with her<n id="2" /> again.p>

But he refused, saying<n id="1" /> to his master&#8217;s wife, &#8220;Look, my master does not give any thought<n id="2" /> to his household with me here,<n id="3" /> and everything that he owns he has put into my care.<n id="4" />

They told him, &#8220;We both had dreams,<n id="1" /> but there is no one to interpret them.&#8221; Joseph responded, &#8220;Don&#8217;t interpretations belong to God? Tell them<n id="2" /> to me.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">When the chief baker saw that the interpretation of the first dream was favorable,<n id="1" /> he said to Joseph, &#8220;I also appeared in my dream and there were three baskets of white bread<n id="2" /> on my head.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, &#8220;I had a dream,<n id="1" /> and there is no one who can interpret<n id="2" /> it. But I have heard about you, that<n id="3" /> you can interpret dreams.&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, &#8220;Both dreams of Pharaoh have the same meaning.<n id="1" /> God has revealed<n id="2" /> to Pharaoh what he is about to do.<n id="3" />

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, &#8220;Because God has enabled you to know all this, there is no one as wise and discerning<n id="1" /> as you are!

Pharaoh also said to Joseph, &#8220;I am Pharaoh, but without your permission<n id="1" /> no one<n id="2" /> will move his hand or his foot<n id="3" /> in all the land of Egypt.&#8221;

He then said, &#8220;Look, I hear that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy grain for us<n id="1" /> so that we may live<n id="2" /> and not die.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Then Joseph remembered<n id="1" /> the dreams he had dreamed about them, and he said to them, &#8220;You are spies; you have come to see if our land is vulnerable!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

Their father Jacob said to them, &#8220;You are making me childless! Joseph is gone.<n id="1" /> Simeon is gone.<n id="2" /> And now you want to take<n id="3" /> Benjamin! Everything is against me.&#8221;p>

When they finished eating the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, &#8220;Return, buy us a little more food.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">But Judah said to him, &#8220;The man solemnly warned<n id="1" /> us, &#8216;You will not see my face<n id="2" /> unless your brother is with you.&#8217;

<p class="bodytext">He replied, &#8220;You have suggested your own punishment!<n id="1" /> The one who has it will become my slave,<n id="2" /> but the rest of<n id="3" /> you will go free.&#8221;<n id="4" />

Joseph said to them, &#8220;What did you think you were doing?<n id="1" /> Don&#8217;t you know that a man like me can find out things like this by divination?&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Joseph said to his brothers, &#8220;I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?&#8221; His brothers could not answer him because they were dumbfounded before him.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, &#8220;Say to your brothers, &#8216;Do this: Load your animals and go<n id="1" /> to the land of Canaan!

He said, &#8220;I am God,<n id="1" /> the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.
