They did so; Aaron extended his hand with his staff, he struck the dust of the ground, and it became gnats on people<n id="1" /> and on animals. All the dust of the ground became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.

But Moses said, &#8220;That would not be the right thing to do,<n id="1" /> for the sacrifices we make<n id="2" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> our God would be an abomination<n id="3" /> to the Egyptians.<n id="4" /> If we make sacrifices that are an abomination to the Egyptians right before their eyes,<n id="5" /> will they not stone us?<n id="6" />

<p class="bodytext">So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the <sc>Lordsc> hardened Pharaoh&#8217;s heart, and he did not release the Israelites from his land.p>

<p class="bodytext">I will pass through<n id="1" /> the land of Egypt in the same<n id="2" /> night, and I will attack<n id="3" /> all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of humans and of animals,<n id="4" /> and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment.<n id="5" /> I am the <sc>Lordsc>.

They baked cakes of bread without yeast using the dough they had brought from Egypt, for it was made without yeast &#8211; because they were thrust out<n id="1" /> of Egypt and were not able to delay, they<n id="2" /> could not prepare<n id="3" /> food for themselves either.p>

<p class="bodytext">When it was reported<n id="1" /> to the king of Egypt that the people had fled,<n id="2" /> the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people, and the king and his servants said,<n id="3" /> &#8220;What in the world have we done?<n id="4" /> For we have released the people of Israel<n id="5" /> from serving us!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to the people, &#8220;Do not fear!<n id="1" /> Stand firm<n id="2" /> and see<n id="3" /> the salvation<n id="4" /> of the <sc>Lordsc> that he will provide<n id="5" /> for you today; for the Egyptians that you see today you will never, ever see again.<n id="6" />

He said, &#8220;If you will diligently obey<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> your God, and do what is right<n id="2" /> in his sight, and pay attention<n id="3" /> to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, then all<n id="4" /> the diseases<n id="5" /> that I brought on the Egyptians I will not bring on you, for I, the <sc>Lord,sc> am your healer.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>

I will be standing<n id="1" /> before you there on<n id="2" /> the rock in Horeb, and you will strike<n id="3" /> the rock, and water will come out of it so that the people may drink.&#8221;<n id="4" /> And Moses did so in plain view<n id="5" /> of the elders of Israel.p>

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses&#8217; father-in-law, heard about all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, that<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc> had brought Israel out of Egypt.<n id="3" />p>

Moses told his father-in-law all that the <sc>Lordsc> had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt for Israel&#8217;s sake, and all the hardship<n id="1" /> that had come on them<n id="2" /> along the way, and how<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> had delivered them.p>

For in six days the <sc>Lordsc> made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day; therefore the <sc>Lordsc> blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8216;You must make for me an altar made of earth,<n id="1" /> and you will sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings,<n id="2" /> your sheep and your cattle. In every place<n id="3" /> where I cause my name to be honored<n id="4" /> I will come to you and I will bless you.

<p class="bodytext">Moses came<n id="1" /> and told the people all the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s words<n id="2" /> and all the decisions. All the people answered together,<n id="3" /> &#8220;We are willing to do<n id="4" /> all the words that the <sc>Lordsc> has said,&#8221;

and you are to make forty silver bases to go under the twenty frames &#8211; two bases under the first frame for its two projections, and likewise<n id="1" /> two bases under the next frame for its two projections;

Moreover,<n id="1" /> I have also given him Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, and I have given ability to all the specially skilled,<n id="2" /> that they may make<n id="3" /> everything I have commanded you:

So you must keep the Sabbath, for it is holy for you. Everyone who defiles it<n id="1" /> must surely be put to death; indeed,<n id="2" /> if anyone does<n id="3" /> any<n id="4" /> work on it, then that person will be cut off from among his<n id="5" /> people.

It is a sign between me and the Israelites forever; for in six days<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

They have quickly turned aside<n id="1" /> from the way that I commanded them &#8211; they have made for themselves a molten calf and have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and said, &#8216;These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt.&#8217;&#8221;p>

He took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire, ground it<n id="1" /> to powder, poured it out on the water, and made the Israelites drink it.<n id="2" />p>
