&#8216;Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, will come to you soon. He will say to you, &#8220;Buy my field at Anathoth because you are entitled<n id="1" /> as my closest relative to buy it.&#8221;&#8217;<n id="2" />

Tell King Jehoiakim of Judah, &#8216;The <sc>Lordsc> says, &#8220;You burned the scroll. You asked<n id="1" /> Jeremiah, &#8216;How dare you write in this scroll that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and wipe out all the people and animals on it?&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">But in the seventh month<n id="1" /> Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah and grandson of Elishama who was a member of the royal family and had been one of Zedekiah&#8217;s chief officers, came with ten of his men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. While they were eating a meal together with him there at Mizpah,

<p class="poetry">Even her mercenaries<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">will prove to be like pampered,<n id="2" /> well-fed calves.p> <p class="poetry">For they too will turn and run away.p> <p class="poetry">They will not stand their groundp> <p class="poetry">when<n id="3" /> the time for them to be destroyed comes,p> <p class="poetry">the time for them to be punished.p>

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came against Jerusalem with his whole army and set up camp outside it.<n id="1" /> They built siege ramps all around it. He arrived on the tenth day of the tenth month in the ninth year that Zedekiah ruled over Judah.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">On the tenth<n id="1" /> day of the fifth month,<n id="2" /> in the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the royal guard<n id="3" /> who served<n id="4" /> the king of Babylon, arrived in Jerusalem.

Go to the exiles, to your fellow countrymen,<n id="1" /> and speak to them &#8211; say to them, &#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says,&#8217; whether they pay attention or not.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">And I said, &#8220;Ah, sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, I have never been ceremonially defiled before. I have never eaten a carcass or an animal torn by wild beasts; from my youth up, unclean meat<n id="1" /> has never entered my mouth.&#8221;p>

The <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> said to the man dressed in linen, &#8220;Go between the wheelwork<n id="2" /> underneath the cherubim.<n id="3" /> Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city.&#8221; He went as I watched.p>

Say to them: &#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says:<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;&#8216;A great eagle<n id="2" /> with broad wings, long feathers,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">with full plumage which was multi-hued,<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">came to Lebanon<n id="5" /> and took the top of the cedar.p>

&#8220;Say to the rebellious house of Israel:<n id="1" /> &#8216;Don&#8217;t you know what these things mean?&#8217;<n id="2" /> Say: &#8216;See here, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem<n id="3" /> and took her king and her officials prisoner and brought them to himself in Babylon.

<p class="poetry">while seeing false visions for youp> <p class="poetry">and reading lying omens for you<n id="1" /> &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">to place that sword<n id="2" /> on the necks of the profane wicked,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">whose day has come,p> <p class="poetry">the time of final punishment.p>

Sheba and Dedan and the traders of Tarshish with all its young warriors<n id="1" /> will say to you, &#8220;Have you come to loot? Have you assembled your armies to plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to haul away a great amount of spoils?&#8221;&#8217;p>

The <sc>Lordsc> said to me: &#8220;This gate will be shut; it will not be opened, and no one will enter by it. For the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of Israel, has entered by it; therefore it will remain shut.

<p class="bodytext">While I was contemplating all this,<n id="1" /> a male goat<n id="2" /> was coming from the west over the surface of all the land<n id="3" /> without touching the ground. This goat had a conspicuous horn<n id="4" /> between its eyes.

However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia was opposing me for twenty-one days. But<n id="1" /> Michael, one of the leading princes, came to help me, because I was left there<n id="2" /> with the kings of Persia.

<p class="bodytext">He said, &#8220;What do you see, Amos?&#8221; I replied, &#8220;A basket of summer fruit.&#8221; Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to me, &#8220;The end<n id="1" /> has come for my people Israel! I will no longer overlook their sins.<n id="2" />p>

&#8220;I am about to send my messenger,<n id="1" /> who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord<n id="2" /> you are seeking will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger<n id="3" /> of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming,&#8221; says the <sc>Lordsc> who rules over all.p>

<p class="bodytext"><v id="(3:19)" /><n id="1" /> &#8220;For indeed the day<n id="2" /> is coming, burning like a furnace, and all the arrogant evildoers will be chaff. The coming day will burn them up,&#8221; says the <sc>Lordsc> who rules over all. &#8220;It<n id="3" /> will not leave even a root or branch.

But in the same way every faithful promise the <sc>Lordsc> your God made to you has been realized,<n id="1" /> it is just as certain, if you disobey, that the <sc>Lordsc> will bring on you every judgment<n id="2" /> until he destroys you from this good land which the <sc>Lordsc> your God gave you.
