<p class="poetry">Help us, O God, our deliverer!p> <p class="poetry">For the sake of your glorious reputation,<n id="1" /> rescue us!p> <p class="poetry">Forgive our sins for the sake of your reputation!<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">Certainly<n id="1" /> spending just one day in your temple courts is betterp> <p class="poetry">than spending a thousand elsewhere.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">I would rather stand at the entrance<n id="3" /> to the temple of my Godp> <p class="poetry">than live<n id="4" /> in the tents of the wicked.p>

So Isaiah replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Pay attention,<n id="2" /> family<n id="3" /> of David.<n id="4" /> Do you consider it too insignificant to try the patience of men? Is that why you are also trying the patience of my God?

<p class="poetry">There will be some left behind,p> <p class="poetry">like when an olive tree is beaten &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">two or three ripe olives remain toward the very top,p> <p class="poetry">four or five on its fruitful branches,&#8221;p> <p class="poetry">says the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel.p>

<p class="poetry">For you ignore<n id="1" /> the God who rescues you;p> <p class="poetry">you pay no attention to your strong protector.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">So this is what happens:p> <p class="poetry">You cultivate beautiful plantsp> <p class="poetry">and plant exotic vines.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">O <sc>Lordsc>, you are my God!<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">I will exalt you in praise, I will extol your fame.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">For you have done extraordinary things,p> <p class="poetry">and executed plans made long ago exactly as you decreed.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">For when they see their children,p> <p class="poetry">whom I will produce among them,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">they will honor<n id="2" /> my name.p> <p class="poetry">They will honor the Holy One of Jacob;<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">they will respect<n id="4" /> the God of Israel.p>

<t /><p class="poetry">For this reason the <sc>Lordsc> is ready to show you mercy;p> <p class="poetry">he sits on his throne, ready to have compassion on you.<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">Indeed, the <sc>Lordsc> is a just God;p> <p class="poetry">all who wait for him in faith will be blessed.<n id="2" />p>

Hezekiah is misleading you when he says, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> will rescue us.&#8221; Has any of the gods of the nations rescued his land from the power of the king of Assyria?<n id="1" />

Who among all the gods of these lands have rescued their lands from my power? So how can the <sc>Lordsc> rescue Jerusalem from my power?&#8217;&#8221;<n id="1" />

Were the nations whom my predecessors<n id="1" /> destroyed &#8211; the nations of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden in Telassar &#8211; rescued by their gods?<n id="2" />

<p class="poetry">Do you not know?p> <p class="poetry">Have you not heard?p> <p class="poetry">The <sc>Lordsc> is an eternal God,p> <p class="poetry">the creator of the whole earth.<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">He does not get tired or weary;p> <p class="poetry">there is no limit to his wisdom.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">The oppressed and the poor look for water, but there is none;p> <p class="poetry">their tongues are parched from thirst.p> <p class="poetry">I, the <sc>Lordsc>, will respond to their prayers;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">I, the God of Israel, will not abandon them.p>

<p class="poetry">I will give you hidden treasures,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">riches stashed away in secret places,p> <p class="poetry">so you may recognize that I am the <sc>Lordsc>,p> <p class="poetry">the one who calls you by name, the God of Israel.p>

<p class="poetry">But I thought,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I have worked in vain;p> <p class="poetry">I have expended my energy for absolutely nothing.&#8221;<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">But the <sc>Lordsc> will vindicate me;p> <p class="poetry">my God will reward me.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">Yet do not depart quicklyp> <p class="poetry">or leave in a panic.<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">For the <sc>Lordsc> goes before you;p> <p class="poetry">the God of Israel is your rear guard.p>

<p class="poetry">For your husband is the one who made you &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">the <sc>Lordsc> who commands armies is his name.p> <p class="poetry">He is your protector,<n id="1" /> the Holy One of Israel.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">He is called &#8220;God of the entire earth.&#8221;p>
