When ¹  Jesus heard this he said, “Those who are healthy don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do. ² 

So ¹  he answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

But he refused. Instead, he went out and threw him in prison until he repaid the debt.

‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” ¹ 

Then Jesus called the ¹  disciples and said, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have already been here with me three days and they have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry since they may faint on the way.”

But so that we don’t offend them, go to the lake and throw out a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth, you will find a four drachma coin. ¹  Take that and give it to them for me and you.”

For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law ¹  and the Pharisees, ²  you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

He went away a second time and prayed, ¹  “My Father, if this cup ²  cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will must be done.”

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, ¹  he will never lose his reward.”

“But woe to you, experts in the law ¹  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! ²  You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! ³  For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in.

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”

So ¹  they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “It is because we brought no bread.”

And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say. ¹ 

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink.

So ¹  the high priest stood up and said to him, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

Jesus answered them, ¹  “Watch out ²  that no one misleads you.

Jesus said to him, “Foxes have dens, and the birds in the sky ¹  have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” ² 

no bag ¹  for the journey, or an extra tunic, ²  or sandals or staff, ³  for the worker deserves his provisions.

What ¹  did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? ²  Look, those who wear fancy clothes are in the homes of kings! ³ 

“Woe to you, experts in the law ¹  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You give a tenth ²  of mint, dill, and cumin, ³  yet you neglect what is more important in the law – justice, mercy, and faithfulness! You ⁴  should have done these things without neglecting the others.
