<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;But you trusted in your beauty and capitalized on your fame by becoming a prostitute. You offered your sexual favors to every man who passed by so that your beauty<n id="1" /> became his.

&#8220;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: &#8220;You will drink your sister&#8217;s deep and wide cup;<n id="1" /> you will be scorned and derided, for it holds a great deal.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;You have shown unrelenting hostility and poured the people of Israel onto the blades of a sword<n id="1" /> at the time of their calamity, at the time of their final punishment.

<p class="poetry">&#8220;&#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says:p> <p class="poetry">I will destroy the idols,p> <p class="poetry">and put an end to the gods of Memphis.p> <p class="poetry">There will no longer be a prince from the land of Egypt;p> <p class="poetry">so I will make the land of Egypt fearful.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">And I said, &#8220;Ah, sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, I have never been ceremonially defiled before. I have never eaten a carcass or an animal torn by wild beasts; from my youth up, unclean meat<n id="1" /> has never entered my mouth.&#8221;p>

I will stretch out my hand against them<n id="1" /> and make the land a desolate waste from the wilderness to Riblah,<n id="2" /> in all the places where they live. Then they will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>!&#8221;p>

<p class="poetry">I will send a plague into the city<n id="1" /> and bloodshed into its streets;p> <p class="poetry">the slain will fall within it, by the sword that attacks it<n id="2" /> from every side.p> <p class="poetry">Then they will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>.p>

It will never again be Israel&#8217;s source of confidence, but a reminder of how they sinned by turning to Egypt for help.<n id="1" /> Then they will know that I am the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle<n id="1" /> before him, he will die. If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I will hold you accountable for his death.

They see delusion and their omens are a lie.<n id="1" /> They say, &#8220;the <sc>Lordsc> declares,&#8221; though the <sc>Lordsc> has not sent them;<n id="2" /> yet they expect their word to be confirmed.<n id="3" />

Among the dead they have made a bed for her, along with all her hordes around her grave.<n id="1" /> All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword, for their terror had spread in the land of the living. They bear their shame along with those who descend to the pit; they are placed among the dead.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Therefore, son of man, pack up your belongings as if for exile. During the day, while they are watching, pretend to go into exile. Go from where you live to another place. Perhaps they will understand,<n id="1" /> although they are a rebellious house.

He will cover you with the dust kicked up by his many horses.<n id="1" /> Your walls will shake from the noise of the horsemen, wheels, and chariots when he enters your gates like those who invade through a city&#8217;s broken walls.<n id="2" />

After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come to a land restored from the ravages of war,<n id="1" /> with many peoples gathered on the mountains of Israel that had long been in ruins. Its people<n id="2" /> were brought out from the peoples, and all of them will be living securely.

I will send famine and wild beasts against you and they will take your children from you.<n id="1" /> Plague and bloodshed will overwhelm you,<n id="2" /> and I will bring a sword against you. I, the <sc>Lord,sc> have spoken!&#8221;p>

They will burn down your houses and execute judgments on you in front of many women. Thus I will put a stop to your prostitution, and you will no longer give gifts to your clients.<n id="1" />
