&#8220;I am,&#8221; said Jesus, &#8220;and you will see <i>the Son of Man sitting at the right handi><n id="1" /> of the Power<n id="2" /> and <i>coming with the clouds of heaveni>.&#8221;<n id="3" />

But the angel said to him, &#8220;Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard,<n id="1" /> and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son; you<n id="2" /> will name him John.<n id="3" />

The angel replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow<n id="2" /> you. Therefore the child<n id="3" /> to be born<n id="4" /> will be holy;<n id="5" /> he will be called the Son of God.p>

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth<n id="1" /> and laid him in a manger,<n id="2" /> because there was no place for them in the inn.<n id="3" />p>

and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove.<n id="1" /> And a voice came from heaven, &#8220;You are my one dear Son;<n id="2" /> in you I take great delight.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> the devil<n id="2" /> brought him to Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> had him stand<n id="4" /> on the highest point of the temple,<n id="5" /> and said to him, &#8220;If<n id="6" /> you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

All<n id="1" /> were speaking well of him, and were amazed at the gracious words coming out of his mouth. They<n id="2" /> said, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this<n id="3" /> Joseph&#8217;s son?&#8221;

Demons also came out<n id="1" /> of many, crying out,<n id="2" /> &#8220;You are the Son of God!&#8221;<n id="3" /> But he rebuked<n id="4" /> them, and would not allow them to speak,<n id="5" /> because they knew that he was the Christ.<n id="6" />p>

and so were James and John, Zebedee&#8217;s sons, who were Simon&#8217;s business partners.<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> Jesus said to Simon, &#8220;Do not be afraid; from now on<n id="3" /> you will be catching people.&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="poetry">&#8220;Blessed are you when people<n id="1" /> hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evil<n id="2" /> on account of the Son of Man!

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back.<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> your reward will be great, and you will be sons<n id="3" /> of the Most High,<n id="4" /> because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people.<n id="5" />

As he approached the town gate, a man<n id="1" /> who had died was being carried out,<n id="2" /> the only son of his mother (who<n id="3" /> was a widow<n id="4" />), and a large crowd from the town<n id="5" /> was with her.

When he saw<n id="1" /> Jesus, he cried out, fell<n id="2" /> down before him, and shouted with a loud voice, &#8220;Leave me alone,<n id="3" /> Jesus, Son of the Most High<n id="4" /> God! I beg you, do not torment<n id="5" /> me!&#8221;

saying, &#8220;The Son of Man must suffer<n id="1" /> many things and be rejected by the elders,<n id="2" /> chief priests, and experts in the law,<n id="3" /> and be killed, and on the third day be raised.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

For whoever is ashamed<n id="1" /> of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person<n id="2" /> when he comes in his glory and in the glory<n id="3" /> of the Father and of the holy angels.

Jesus answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You<n id="2" /> unbelieving<n id="3" /> and perverse generation! How much longer<n id="4" /> must I be with you and endure<n id="5" /> you?<n id="6" /> Bring your son here.&#8221;

Jesus said to him, &#8220;Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky<n id="1" /> have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;I<n id="1" /> tell you, whoever acknowledges<n id="2" /> me before men,<n id="3" /> the Son of Man will also acknowledge<n id="4" /> before God&#8217;s angels.

I tell you, he will give them justice speedily.<n id="1" /> Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith<n id="2" /> on earth?&#8221;p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> took the twelve aside and said to them, &#8220;Look, we are going up to Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.<n id="4" />
