Say to them, &#8216;Throughout your generations,<n id="1" /> if any man from all your descendants approaches the holy offerings which the Israelites consecrate<n id="2" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> while he is impure,<n id="3" /> that person must be cut off from before me.<n id="4" /> I am the <sc>Lordsc>.

or when jealous feelings come over a man and he becomes suspicious of his wife; then he must have the woman stand before the <sc>Lordsc>, and the priest will carry out all this law upon her.

Whether it was for two days, or a month, or a year,<n id="1" /> that the cloud prolonged its stay<n id="2" /> over the tabernacle, the Israelites remained camped without traveling;<n id="3" /> but when it was taken up, they traveled on.

And the <sc>Lordsc> came down in the cloud and spoke to them, and he took some of the Spirit that was on Moses<n id="1" /> and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them,<n id="2" /> they prophesied,<n id="3" /> but did not do so again.<n id="4" />p>

Anyone who touches the corpse of any dead person and does not purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the <sc>Lordsc>. And that person must be cut off from Israel,<n id="1" /> because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him. He will be unclean; his uncleanness remains on him.p>

But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person must be cut off from among the community, because he has polluted the sanctuary of the <sc>Lordsc>; the water of purification was not sprinkled on him, so he is unclean.p>

If you besiege a city for a long time while attempting to capture it,<n id="1" /> you must not chop down its trees,<n id="2" /> for you may eat fruit<n id="3" /> from them and should not cut them down. A tree in the field is not human that you should besiege it!<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">When a man is newly married, he need not go into<n id="1" /> the army nor be obligated in any way; he must be free to stay at home for a full year and bring joy to<n id="2" /> the wife he has married.p>

You must pay his wage that very day before the sun sets, for he is poor and his life depends on it. Otherwise he will cry out to the <sc>Lordsc> against you, and you will be guilty of sin.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had placed his hands on him;<n id="1" /> and the Israelites listened to him and did just what the <sc>Lordsc> had commanded Moses.

The commander of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s army answered Joshua, &#8220;Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you stand is holy.&#8221; Joshua did so.p>

Then they erected over him a large pile of stones (it remains to this very day<n id="1" />) and the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s anger subsided. So that place is called the Valley of Disaster to this very day.p>

just as Moses the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s servant had commanded the Israelites. As described in the law scroll of Moses, it was made with uncut stones untouched by an iron tool.<n id="1" /> They offered burnt sacrifices on it and sacrificed tokens of peace.<n id="2" />

Your fathers<n id="1" /> cried out for help to the <sc>Lordsc>; he made the area between you and the Egyptians dark,<n id="2" /> and then drowned them in the sea.<n id="3" /> You witnessed with your very own eyes<n id="4" /> what I did in Egypt. You lived in the wilderness for a long time.<n id="5" />

The <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s spirit empowered him<n id="1" /> and he led Israel. When he went to do battle, the <sc>Lordsc> handed over to him King Cushan-Rishathaim of Aram and he overpowered him.<n id="2" />

But he went back<n id="1" /> once he reached<n id="2" /> the carved images<n id="3" /> at Gilgal. He said to Eglon,<n id="4" /> &#8220;I have a secret message for you, O king.&#8221; Eglon<n id="5" /> said, &#8220;Be quiet!&#8221;<n id="6" /> All his attendants left.

<t /><p class="bodytext">That night the <sc>Lordsc> said to him, &#8220;Take the bull from your father&#8217;s herd, as well as a second bull, one that is seven years old.<n id="1" /> Pull down your father&#8217;s Baal altar and cut down the nearby Asherah pole.

<p class="bodytext">When the men of the city got up the next morning, they saw<n id="1" /> the Baal altar pulled down, the nearby Asherah pole cut down, and the second bull sacrificed on the newly built altar.

The men of the city said to Joash, &#8220;Bring out your son, so we can execute him!<n id="1" /> He pulled down the Baal altar and cut down the nearby Asherah pole.&#8221;

But Joash said to all those who confronted him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Must you fight Baal&#8217;s battles?<n id="2" /> Must you rescue him? Whoever takes up his cause<n id="3" /> will die by morning!<n id="4" /> If he really is a god, let him fight his own battles!<n id="5" /> After all, it was his altar that was pulled down.&#8221;<n id="6" />
