Now when they heard about ¹  the resurrection from the dead, some began to scoff, ²  but others said, “We will hear you again about this.”

He began to speak out fearlessly ¹  in the synagogue, ²  but when Priscilla and Aquila ³  heard him, they took him aside ⁴  and explained the way of God to him more accurately.

Some of the disciples from Caesarea ¹  came along with us too, and brought us to the house ²  of Mnason of Cyprus, a disciple from the earliest times, ³  with whom we were to stay.

Because I was at a loss ¹  how I could investigate these matters, ²  I asked if he were willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried ³  there on these charges. ⁴ 

“Men, I can see the voyage is going to end ¹  in disaster ²  and great loss not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” ³ 

But I will punish ¹  the nation they serve as slaves,’ said God, ‘and after these things they will come out of there ²  and worship ³  me in this place.’ ⁴ 

Which of the prophets did your ancestors ¹  not persecute? ²  They ³  killed those who foretold long ago the coming of the Righteous One, ⁴  whose betrayers and murderers you have now become! ⁵ 

When Herod ¹  had searched ²  for him and did not find him, he questioned ³  the guards and commanded that they be led away to execution. ⁴  Then ⁵  Herod ⁶  went down from Judea to Caesarea ⁷  and stayed there.

Since we have heard that some have gone out from among us with no orders from us and have confused ¹  you, upsetting ²  your minds ³  by what they said, ⁴ 

explaining and demonstrating ¹  that the Christ ²  had to suffer and to rise from the dead, ³  saying, ⁴  “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.” ⁵ 

For as I went around and observed closely your objects of worship, ¹  I even found an altar with this inscription: ²  ‘To an unknown god.’ Therefore what you worship without knowing it, ³  this I proclaim to you.

But some itinerant ¹  Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name ²  of the Lord Jesus over those who were possessed by ³  evil spirits, saying, “I sternly warn ⁴  you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”

And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded ¹  and turned away ²  a large crowd, ³  not only in Ephesus ⁴  but in practically all of the province of Asia, ⁵  by saying ⁶  that gods made by hands are not gods at all. ⁷ 

When they heard this, they praised ¹  God. Then they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews ²  there are who have believed, and they are all ardent observers ³  of the law. ⁴ 

Reverential awe ¹  came over everyone, ²  and many wonders and miraculous signs ³  came about by the apostles.

And all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed him, have spoken about and announced ¹  these days.

But many of those who had listened to ¹  the message ²  believed, and the number of the men ³  came to about five thousand.

When Ananias heard these words he collapsed and died, and great fear gripped ¹  all who heard about it.

Great ¹  fear gripped ²  the whole church ³  and all who heard about these things.

More and more believers in the Lord were added to their number, ¹  crowds of both men and women.
