Peter<n id="1" /> went out<n id="2" /> and followed him;<n id="3" /> he did not realize that what was happening through the angel was real,<n id="4" /> but thought he was seeing a vision.

When Herod<n id="1" /> had searched<n id="2" /> for him and did not find him, he questioned<n id="3" /> the guards and commanded that they be led away to execution.<n id="4" /> Then<n id="5" /> Herod<n id="6" /> went down from Judea to Caesarea<n id="7" /> and stayed there.p>

Immediately an angel of the Lord<n id="1" /> struck<n id="2" /> Herod<n id="3" /> down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.<n id="4" />

When<n id="1" /> they arrived<n id="2" /> in Salamis,<n id="3" /> they began to proclaim<n id="4" /> the word of God in the Jewish synagogues.<n id="5" /> (Now they also had John<n id="6" /> as their assistant.)<n id="7" />

But the magician Elymas<n id="1" /> (for that is the way his name is translated)<n id="2" /> opposed them, trying to turn the proconsul<n id="3" /> away from the faith.

Moving on from<n id="1" /> Perga,<n id="2" /> they arrived at Pisidian Antioch,<n id="3" /> and on the Sabbath day they went into<n id="4" /> the synagogue<n id="5" /> and sat down.

So Paul stood up,<n id="1" /> gestured<n id="2" /> with his hand and said,p> <p class="bodytext">&#8220;Men of Israel,<n id="3" /> and you Gentiles who fear God,<n id="4" /> listen:

But regarding the fact that he has raised Jesus<n id="1" /> from the dead, never<n id="2" /> again to be<n id="3" /> in a state of decay, God<n id="4" /> has spoken in this way: &#8216;<b><i>I will give youi>b><n id="5" /> <b><i>the holy and trustworthy promisesi>b><n id="6" /> <b><i>made to Davidi>b>.&#8217;<n id="7" />

When the Gentiles heard this, they began to rejoice<n id="1" /> and praise<n id="2" /> the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed for eternal life<n id="3" /> believed.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The same thing happened in Iconium<n id="1" /> when Paul and Barnabas<n id="2" /> went into the Jewish synagogue<n id="3" /> and spoke in such a way that a large group<n id="4" /> of both Jews and Greeks believed.

<p class="bodytext">But Jews came from Antioch<n id="1" /> and Iconium,<n id="2" /> and after winning<n id="3" /> the crowds over, they stoned<n id="4" /> Paul and dragged him out of the city, presuming him to be dead.

But after the disciples had surrounded him, he got up and went back<n id="1" /> into the city. On<n id="2" /> the next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.<n id="3" />p>

When they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported<n id="1" /> all the things God<n id="2" /> had done with them, and that he had opened a door<n id="3" /> of faith for the Gentiles.

When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were received<n id="1" /> by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported<n id="2" /> all the things God had done with them.<n id="3" />

But some from the religious party of the Pharisees<n id="1" /> who had believed stood up and said, &#8220;It is necessary<n id="2" /> to circumcise the Gentiles<n id="3" /> and to order them to observe<n id="4" /> the law of Moses.&#8221;p>

But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch,<n id="1" /> teaching and proclaiming (along with many others)<n id="2" /> the word of the Lord.<n id="3" />p>

but Paul insisted<n id="1" /> that they should not take along this one who had left them in Pamphylia<n id="2" /> and had not accompanied them in the work.

As they went through the towns,<n id="1" /> they passed on<n id="2" /> the decrees that had been decided on by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem<n id="3" /> for the Gentile believers<n id="4" /> to obey.<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">They went through the region of Phrygia<n id="1" /> and Galatia,<n id="2" /> having been prevented<n id="3" /> by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message<n id="4" /> in the province of Asia.<n id="5" />

When they came to<n id="1" /> Mysia,<n id="2" /> they attempted to go into Bithynia,<n id="3" /> but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow<n id="4" /> them to do this,<n id="5" />
