See, because the <sc>Lordsc> has given you the Sabbath, that is why<n id="1" /> he is giving you food for two days on the sixth day. Each of you stay where you are;<n id="2" /> let no one<n id="3" /> go out of his place on the seventh day.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Moses said, &#8220;This is what<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> has commanded: &#8216;Fill an omer with it to be kept<n id="2" /> for generations to come,<n id="3" /> so that they may see<n id="4" /> the food I fed you in the desert when I brought you out from the land of Egypt.&#8217;&#8221;

So the people contended<n id="1" /> with Moses, and they said, &#8220;Give us water to drink!&#8221;<n id="2" /> Moses said to them, &#8220;Why do you contend<n id="3" /> with me? Why do you test<n id="4" /> the <sc>Lordsc>?&#8221;

The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Go over before the people;<n id="1" /> take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile and go.

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Write this as a memorial in the<n id="1" /> book, and rehearse<n id="2" /> it in Joshua&#8217;s hearing;<n id="3" /> for I will surely wipe out<n id="4" /> the remembrance<n id="5" /> of Amalek from under heaven.

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses&#8217; father-in-law, heard about all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, that<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc> had brought Israel out of Egypt.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to the <sc>Lordsc>, &#8220;The people are not able to come up to Mount Sinai, because you solemnly warned us,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Set boundaries for the mountain and set it apart.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />

You shall not bow down to them or serve them,<n id="1" /> for I, the <sc>Lordsc>, your God, am a jealous<n id="2" /> God, responding to<n id="3" /> the transgression of fathers by dealing with children to the third and fourth generations<n id="4" /> of those who reject me,<n id="5" />

and Moses wrote down all the words of the <sc>Lordsc>. Early in the morning he built<n id="1" /> an altar at the foot<n id="2" /> of the mountain and arranged<n id="3" /> twelve standing stones<n id="4" /> &#8211; according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

So Moses took the blood and splashed it on<n id="1" /> the people and said, &#8220;This is the blood of the covenant<n id="2" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> has made with you in accordance with all these words.&#8221;p>

<n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Come up to me to the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets<n id="2" /> with<n id="3" /> the law and the commandments that I have written, so that you may teach them.&#8221;<n id="4" />

In the tent of meeting<n id="1" /> outside the curtain that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons are to arrange it from evening<n id="2" /> to morning before the <sc>Lordsc>. This is to be a lasting ordinance among the Israelites for generations to come.<n id="3" />p>

You are to put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod, stones of memorial for the sons of Israel, and Aaron will bear their names before the <sc>Lordsc> on his two shoulders for a memorial.<n id="1" />

It will be on Aaron&#8217;s forehead, and Aaron will bear the iniquity of the holy things,<n id="1" /> which the Israelites are to sanctify by all their holy gifts;<n id="2" /> it will always be on his forehead, for their acceptance<n id="3" /> before the <sc>Lordsc>.

It is to belong to Aaron and to his sons from the Israelites, by a perpetual ordinance, for it is a contribution. It is to be a contribution from the Israelites from their peace offerings, their contribution to the <sc>Lordsc>.p>

&#8220;When you take a census<n id="1" /> of the Israelites according to their number,<n id="2" /> then each man is to pay a ransom<n id="3" /> for his life to the <sc>Lordsc> when you number them,<n id="4" /> so that there will be no plague among them when you number them.

You are to receive the atonement money<n id="1" /> from the Israelites and give it for the service<n id="2" /> of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial<n id="3" /> for the Israelites before the <sc>Lordsc>, to make atonement<n id="4" /> for your lives.&#8221;p>

&#8220;Tell the Israelites, &#8216;Surely you must keep my Sabbaths,<n id="1" /> for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the <sc>Lordsc> who sanctifies you.<n id="2" />

It is a sign between me and the Israelites forever; for in six days<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

and he said to them, &#8220;Thus says the <sc>Lord,sc> the God of Israel, &#8216;Each man fasten<n id="1" /> his sword on his side, and go back and forth<n id="2" /> from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and each one kill his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="3" />p>
