<p class="poetry">Look up at the sky!<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">Who created all these heavenly lights?<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">He is the one who leads out their ranks;<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">he calls them all by name.p> <p class="poetry">Because of his absolute power and awesome strength,p> <p class="poetry">not one of them is missing.p>

<p class="poetry">I will lead the blind along an unfamiliar way;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">I will guide them down paths they have never traveled.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">I will turn the darkness in front of them into light,p> <p class="poetry">and level out the rough ground.<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">This is what I will do for them.p> <p class="poetry">I will not abandon them.p>

&#8220;So then, Jeremiah,<n id="1" /> when your people<n id="2" /> ask, &#8216;Why has the <sc>Lordsc> our God done all this to us?&#8217; tell them, &#8216;It is because you rejected me and served foreign gods in your own land. So<n id="3" /> you must serve foreigners<n id="4" /> in a land that does not belong to you.&#8217;p>

<p class="poetry">Do any of the worthless idols<n id="1" /> of the nations cause rain to fall?p> <p class="poetry">Do the skies themselves send showers?p> <p class="poetry">Is it not you, O Lord our God, who does this?<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">So we put our hopes in you<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">because you alone do all this.&#8221;p>

<p class="lamhebrew">&#1506; (<i>Ayini>)p> <p class="poetry">I weep because of these things;p> <p class="poetry">my eyes<n id="1" /> flow with tears.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">For there is no one in sight who can comfort me<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">or encourage me.<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">My children<n id="5" /> are desolated<n id="6" />p> <p class="poetry">because an enemy has prevailed.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;When you have completed these days, then lie down a second time, but on your right side, and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah 40 days<n id="1" /> &#8211; I have assigned one day for each year.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;Because you did not remember the days of your youth and have enraged me with all these deeds, I hereby repay you for what you have done,<n id="1" /> declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>. Have you not engaged in prostitution on top of all your other abominable practices?p>

&#8220;Say to the rebellious house of Israel:<n id="1" /> &#8216;Don&#8217;t you know what these things mean?&#8217;<n id="2" /> Say: &#8216;See here, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem<n id="3" /> and took her king and her officials prisoner and brought them to himself in Babylon.

<p class="bodytext">Then he said to me: &#8220;Son of man, this is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: These are the statutes of the altar: On the day it is built to offer up burnt offerings on it and to sprinkle blood on it,<n id="1" />

<p class="poetry">O God of my fathers, I acknowledge and glorify you,p> <p class="poetry">for you have bestowed wisdom and power on me.p> <p class="poetry">Now you have enabled me to understand what I<n id="1" /> requested from you.p> <p class="poetry">For you have enabled me to understand the king&#8217;s dilemma.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries,<n id="1" /> and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the times to come.<n id="2" /> The dream and the visions you had while lying on your bed<n id="3" /> are as follows.p>

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will raise up an everlasting kingdom that will not be destroyed and a kingdom that will not be left to another people. It will break in pieces and bring about the demise of all these kingdoms. But it will stand forever.

You saw that a stone was cut from a mountain, but not by human hands; it smashed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold into pieces. The great God has made known to the king what will occur in the future.<n id="1" /> The dream is certain, and its interpretation is reliable.&#8221;p>

The king replied to Daniel, &#8220;Certainly your God is a God of gods and Lord of kings and revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery!&#8221;

Shortly after his rise to power,<n id="1" /> his kingdom will be broken up and distributed toward the four winds of the sky<n id="2" /> &#8211; but not to his posterity or with the authority he exercised, for his kingdom will be uprooted and distributed to others besides these.p>

Then I heard the man clothed in linen who was over the waters of the river as he raised both his right and left hands to the sky<n id="1" /> and made an oath by the one who lives forever: &#8220;It is for a time, times, and half a time. Then, when the power of the one who shatters<n id="2" /> the holy people has been exhausted, all these things will be finished.&#8221;p>

<t /><p class="poetry">&#8220;But all these nations will someday taunt him<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">and ridicule him with proverbial sayings:<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8216;The one who accumulates what does not belong to him is as good as dead<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">(How long will this go on?)<n id="4" /> &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">he who gets rich by extortion!&#8217;<n id="5" />p>

For who dares make light of small beginnings? These seven eyes<n id="1" /> will joyfully look on the tin tablet<n id="2" /> in Zerubbabel&#8217;s hand. (These are the eyes of the <sc>Lordsc>, which constantly range across the whole earth.)p>

&#8216;for there will be a peaceful time of sowing, the vine will produce its fruit and the ground its yield, and the skies<n id="1" /> will rain down dew. Then I will allow the remnant of my people to possess all these things.

Do not plan evil in your hearts against one another. Do not favor a false oath &#8211; these are all things that I hate,&#8217; says the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8221;p>
