<t /><p class="bodytext">When the <sc>Lordsc> your God extends your borders as he said he would do and you say, &#8220;I want to eat meat just as I please,&#8221;<n id="1" /> you may do so as you wish.<n id="2" />

Pay careful attention to all these things I am commanding you so that it may always go well with you and your children after you when you do what is good and right in the sight of the <sc>Lordsc> your God.p>

You must not worship the <sc>Lordsc> your God the way they do!<n id="1" /> For everything that is abhorrent<n id="2" /> to him,<n id="3" /> everything he hates, they have done when worshiping their gods. They even burn up their sons and daughters before their gods!p>

you must by all means<n id="1" /> slaughter the inhabitants of that city with the sword; annihilate<n id="2" /> with the sword everyone in it, as well as the livestock.

You must not take for yourself anything that has been placed under judgment.<n id="1" /> Then the <sc>Lordsc> will relent from his intense anger, show you compassion, have mercy on you, and multiply you as he promised your ancestors.

Thus you must obey the <sc>Lordsc> your God, keeping all his commandments that I am giving<n id="1" /> you today and doing what is right<n id="2" /> before him.<n id="3" />p>

For you are a people holy<n id="1" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> your God. He<n id="2" /> has chosen you to be his people, prized<n id="3" /> above all others on the face of the earth.

You may not eat any corpse, though you may give it to the resident foreigner who is living in your villages<n id="1" /> and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. You are a people holy to the <sc>Lordsc> your God. Do not boil a young goat in its mother&#8217;s milk.<n id="2" />p>

In the presence of the <sc>Lordsc> your God you must eat from the tithe of your grain, your new wine,<n id="1" /> your olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the place he chooses to locate his name, so that you may learn to revere the <sc>Lordsc> your God always.

When he<n id="1" /> blesses you, if the<n id="2" /> place where he chooses to locate his name is distant,

This is the nature of the cancellation: Every creditor must remit what he has loaned to another person;<n id="1" /> he must not force payment from his fellow Israelite,<n id="2" /> for it is to be recognized as &#8220;the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s cancellation of debts.&#8221;

For the <sc>Lordsc> your God will bless you just as he has promised; you will lend to many nations but will not borrow from any, and you will rule over many nations but they will not rule over you.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">If a fellow Israelite<n id="1" /> from one of your villages<n id="2" /> in the land that the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you should be poor, you must not harden your heart or be insensitive<n id="3" /> to his impoverished condition.<n id="4" />

You should not consider it difficult to let him go free, for he will have served you for six years, twice<n id="1" /> the time of a hired worker; the <sc>Lordsc> your God will bless you in everything you do.p>

but you must sacrifice it<n id="1" /> in the evening in<n id="2" /> the place where he<n id="3" /> chooses to locate his name, at sunset, the time of day you came out of Egypt.

You are to celebrate the festival seven days before the <sc>Lordsc> your God in the place he<n id="1" /> chooses, for he<n id="2" /> will bless you in all your productivity and in whatever you do;<n id="3" /> so you will indeed rejoice!

Three times a year all your males must appear before the <sc>Lordsc> your God in the place he chooses for the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Temporary Shelters; and they must not appear before him<n id="1" /> empty-handed.

you must bring to your city gates<n id="1" /> that man or woman who has done this wicked thing &#8211; that very man or woman &#8211; and you must stone that person to death.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">If a matter is too difficult for you to judge &#8211; bloodshed,<n id="1" /> legal claim,<n id="2" /> or assault<n id="3" /> &#8211; matters of controversy in your villages<n id="4" /> &#8211; you must leave there and go up to the place the <sc>Lordsc> your God chooses.<n id="5" />

The person who pays no attention<n id="1" /> to the priest currently serving the <sc>Lordsc> your God there, or to the verdict &#8211; that person must die, so that you may purge evil from Israel.
