The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died ¹  by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by ²  the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, ³  for you have brought us out into this desert to kill ⁴  this whole assembly with hunger!”

Now the Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was inhabited; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

¹ Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard about all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, that ²  the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt. ³ 

Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt for Israel’s sake, and all the hardship ¹  that had come on them ²  along the way, and how ³  the Lord had delivered them.

I will set ¹  your boundaries from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the River, ²  for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you.

Moses came ¹  and told the people all the Lord’s words ²  and all the decisions. All the people answered together, ³  “We are willing to do ⁴  all the words that the Lord has said,”

You are to hang this curtain under the clasps and bring the ark of the testimony in there behind the curtain. ¹  The curtain will make a division for you between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. ² 

¹ “And you, bring near ²  to you your brother Aaron and his sons with him from among the Israelites, so that they may minister as my priests ³  – Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

You are to put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod, stones of memorial for the sons of Israel, and Aaron will bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for a memorial. ¹ 

and you are to kill the ram and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, on the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot, ¹  and then splash the blood all around on the altar.

It is to belong to Aaron and to his sons from the Israelites, by a perpetual ordinance, for it is a contribution. It is to be a contribution from the Israelites from their peace offerings, their contribution to the Lord.

Moreover, ¹  I have also given him Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, and I have given ability to all the specially skilled, ²  that they may make ³  everything I have commanded you:

It is a sign between me and the Israelites forever; for in six days ¹  the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’” ² 

He took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire, ground it ¹  to powder, poured it out on the water, and made the Israelites drink it. ² 

Moses said to the Lord, “See, you have been saying to me, ‘Bring this people up,’ ¹  but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, ‘I know you by name, ²  and also you have found favor in my sight.’

And the Lord ¹  said, “I will make all my goodness ²  pass before your face, and I will proclaim the Lord by name ³  before you; I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy.” ⁴ 

But when Moses went in ¹  before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil until he came out. ²  Then he would come out and tell the Israelites what he had been commanded. ³ 

When the Israelites would see ¹  the face of Moses, that ²  the skin of Moses’ face shone, Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with the Lord. ³ 

Everyone ¹  whose heart stirred him to action ²  and everyone whose spirit was willing ³  came and brought the offering for the Lord for the work of the tent of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments. ⁴ 

and they received from Moses all the offerings the Israelites had brought to do ¹  the work for the service of the sanctuary, and they still continued to bring him a freewill offering each morning. ²
