But Peter and the apostles replied, ¹  “We must obey ²  God rather than people. ³ 

But the crowd ¹  began to shout, ²  “The voice of a god, ³  and not of a man!”

saying, “This man is persuading ¹  people to worship God in a way contrary to ²  the law!”

testifying ¹  to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus. ² 

with respect to Jesus from Nazareth, ¹  that ²  God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He ³  went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, ⁴  because God was with him. ⁵ 

You have no share or part ¹  in this matter ²  because your heart is not right before God!

“Men of Israel, ¹  listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds, ²  wonders, and miraculous signs ³  that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves know –

You killed ¹  the Originator ²  of life, whom God raised ³  from the dead. To this fact we are witnesses! ⁴ 

The God of our forefathers ¹  raised up Jesus, whom you seized and killed by hanging him on a tree. ² 

Then they secretly instigated ¹  some men to say, “We have heard this man ²  speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

The ¹  patriarchs, because they were jealous of Joseph, sold ²  him into Egypt. But ³  God was with him,

He thought his own people ¹  would understand that God was delivering them ²  through him, ³  but they did not understand. ⁴ 

and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, ¹  saying, “This man is the Son of God.” ² 

The voice ¹  spoke to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you must not consider ²  ritually unclean!” ³ 

and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your acts of charity ¹  have been remembered before God. ² 

Then Peter started speaking: ¹  “I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism in dealing with people, ² 

But the voice replied a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, you must not consider ¹  ritually unclean!’

So Paul stood up, ¹  gestured ²  with his hand and said, “Men of Israel, ³  and you Gentiles who fear God, ⁴  listen:

Simeon ¹  has explained ²  how God first concerned himself ³  to select ⁴  from among the Gentiles ⁵  a people for his name.

“Therefore I conclude ¹  that we should not cause extra difficulty ²  for those among the Gentiles ³  who are turning to God,
