<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Herod<n id="1" /> the tetrarch<n id="2" /> heard about everything that was happening, and he was thoroughly perplexed,<n id="3" /> because some people were saying that John<n id="4" /> had been raised from the dead,

Now if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons<n id="1" /> cast them<n id="2" /> out? Therefore they will be your judges.

For this reason also the wisdom<n id="1" /> of God said, &#8216;I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,&#8217;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Jesus<n id="1" /> said to his disciples, &#8220;Stumbling blocks are sure to come, but woe<n id="2" /> to the one through whom they come!

yet because this widow keeps on bothering me, I will give her justice, or in the end she will wear me out<n id="1" /> by her unending pleas.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />

Why then didn&#8217;t you put<n id="1" /> my money in the bank,<n id="2" /> so that when I returned I could have collected it with interest?&#8217;

So<n id="1" /> they discussed it with one another, saying, &#8220;If we say, &#8216;From heaven,&#8217; he will say, &#8216;Why did you not believe him?&#8217;

For the Son of Man is to go just as it has been determined,<n id="1" /> but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!&#8221;

He released the man they asked for, who had been thrown in prison for insurrection and murder. But he handed Jesus over<n id="1" /> to their will.<n id="2" />p>

So<n id="1" /> Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth<n id="2" /> in Galilee to Judea, to the city<n id="3" /> of David called Bethlehem,<n id="4" /> because he was of the house<n id="5" /> and family line<n id="6" /> of David.

When<n id="1" /> the woman saw that she could not escape notice,<n id="2" /> she came trembling and fell down before him. In<n id="3" /> the presence of all the people, she explained why<n id="4" /> she had touched him and how she had been immediately healed.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;When an unclean spirit<n id="1" /> goes out of a person,<n id="2" /> it passes through waterless places<n id="3" /> looking for rest but<n id="4" /> not finding any. Then<n id="5" /> it says, &#8216;I will return to the home I left.&#8217;<n id="6" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to his<n id="3" /> disciples, &#8220;Therefore I tell you, do not worry<n id="4" /> about your<n id="5" /> life, what you will eat, or about your<n id="6" /> body, what you will wear.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> took the twelve aside and said to them, &#8220;Look, we are going up to Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">While the people were listening to these things, Jesus<n id="1" /> proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem,<n id="2" /> and because they thought<n id="3" /> that the kingdom of God<n id="4" /> was going to<n id="5" /> appear immediately.

When<n id="1" /> Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him and was hoping to see him perform<n id="2" /> some miraculous sign.<n id="3" />

He is like a man<n id="1" /> building a house, who dug down deep,<n id="2" /> and laid the foundation on bedrock. When<n id="3" /> a flood came, the river<n id="4" /> burst against that house but<n id="5" /> could not shake it, because it had been well built.<n id="6" />
