He<n id="1" /> fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, &#8220;Saul, Saul,<n id="2" /> why are you persecuting me?&#8221;<n id="3" />

(Now the men<n id="1" /> who were traveling with him stood there speechless,<n id="2" /> because they heard the voice but saw no one.)<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">On the next Sabbath almost the whole city assembled together to hear the word of the Lord.<n id="1" />

But when the apostles<n id="1" /> Barnabas and Paul heard about<n id="2" /> it, they tore<n id="3" /> their clothes and rushed out<n id="4" /> into the crowd, shouting,<n id="5" />

After they stopped speaking,<n id="1" /> James replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Brothers, listen to me.

The police officers reported these words to the magistrates. They were frightened when they heard Paul and Silas<n id="1" /> were Roman citizens<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> they heard<n id="2" /> this they became enraged<n id="3" /> and began to shout,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Great is Artemis<n id="5" /> of the Ephesians!&#8221;

But so that I may not delay<n id="1" /> you any further, I beg<n id="2" /> you to hear us briefly<n id="3" /> with your customary graciousness.<n id="4" />

because you are especially<n id="1" /> familiar with all the customs and controversial issues<n id="2" /> of the Jews. Therefore I ask<n id="3" /> you to listen to me patiently.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Therefore be advised<n id="1" /> that this salvation from God<n id="2" /> has been sent to the Gentiles;<n id="3" /> they<n id="4" /> will listen!&#8221;p>

While he was with them,<n id="1" /> he declared,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Do not leave Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> but wait there<n id="4" /> for what my<n id="5" /> Father promised,<n id="6" /> which you heard about from me.<n id="7" />

When this sound<n id="1" /> occurred, a crowd gathered and was in confusion,<n id="2" /> because each one heard them speaking in his own language.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now when they heard this,<n id="1" /> they were acutely distressed<n id="2" /> and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, &#8220;What should we do, brothers?&#8221;

But Peter and John replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Whether it is right before God to obey<n id="2" /> you rather than God, you decide,

Now when the commander<n id="1" /> of the temple guard<n id="2" /> and the chief priests heard this report,<n id="3" /> they were greatly puzzled concerning it,<n id="4" /> wondering what this could<n id="5" /> be.

The crowds were paying attention with one mind to what Philip said,<n id="1" /> as they heard and saw the miraculous signs<n id="2" /> he was performing.
