Then the disciples came to him and said, &#8220;Do you know that when the Pharisees<n id="1" /> heard this saying they were offended?&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now when the Pharisees<n id="1" /> and Sadducees<n id="2" /> came to test Jesus,<n id="3" /> they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.<n id="4" />

&#8220;Watch out,&#8221; Jesus said to them, &#8220;beware of the yeast of the Pharisees<n id="1" /> and Sadducees.&#8221;<n id="2" />

When<n id="1" /> the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="2" /> heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The<n id="1" /> next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="2" /> assembled before Pilate

So<n id="1" /> the Pharisees<n id="2" /> said to him, &#8220;Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?&#8221;

So<n id="1" /> the Pharisees<n id="2" /> went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians,<n id="3" /> as to how they could assassinate<n id="4" /> him.p>

And Jesus<n id="1" /> ordered them,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees<n id="3" /> and the yeast of Herod!&#8221;

Then some Pharisees<n id="1" /> came, and to test him<n id="2" /> they asked, &#8220;Is it lawful for a man to divorce his<n id="3" /> wife?&#8221;<n id="4" />

But some of the Pharisees<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Why are you<n id="2" /> doing what is against the law<n id="3" /> on the Sabbath?&#8221;

However, the Pharisees<n id="1" /> and the experts in religious law<n id="2" /> rejected God&#8217;s purpose<n id="3" /> for themselves, because they had not been baptized<n id="4" /> by John.<n id="5" />)<n id="6" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">As he spoke,<n id="1" /> a Pharisee<n id="2" /> invited Jesus<n id="3" /> to have a meal with him, so he went in and took his place at the table.<n id="4" />

Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats<n id="1" /> in the synagogues<n id="2" /> and elaborate greetings<n id="3" /> in the marketplaces!

<p class="bodytext">When he went out from there, the experts in the law<n id="1" /> and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly,<n id="2" /> and to ask him hostile questions<n id="3" /> about many things,

But<n id="1" /> the Pharisees<n id="2" /> and the experts in the law<n id="3" /> were complaining,<n id="4" /> &#8220;This man welcomes<n id="5" /> sinners and eats with them.&#8221;p>

&#8220;Two men went up<n id="1" /> to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee<n id="2" /> and the other a tax collector.<n id="3" />
