Because Jesus<n id="1" /> knew that the Father had handed all things over to him,<n id="2" /> and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

Now we know that you know everything<n id="1" /> and do not need anyone<n id="2" /> to ask you anything.<n id="3" /> Because of this<n id="4" /> we believe that you have come from God.&#8221;p>

He then said to his disciple, &#8220;Look, here is your mother!&#8221; From that very time<n id="1" /> the disciple took her into his own home.p>

Philip found Nathanael<n id="1" /> and told him, &#8220;We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law, and the prophets also<n id="2" /> wrote about &#8211; Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.&#8221;

I can do nothing on my own initiative.<n id="1" /> Just as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just,<n id="2" /> because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me.<n id="3" />p>

The person who speaks on his own authority<n id="1" /> desires<n id="2" /> to receive honor<n id="3" /> for himself; the one who desires<n id="4" /> the honor<n id="5" /> of the one who sent him is a man of integrity,<n id="6" /> and there is no unrighteousness in him.

<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he,<n id="2" /> and I do nothing on my own initiative,<n id="3" /> but I speak just what the Father taught me.<n id="4" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come from God and am now here.<n id="2" /> I<n id="3" /> have not come on my own initiative,<n id="4" /> but he<n id="5" /> sent me.

Remain<n id="1" /> in me, and I will remain in you.<n id="2" /> Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself,<n id="3" /> unless it remains<n id="4" /> in<n id="5" /> the vine, so neither can you unless you remain<n id="6" /> in me.p>

But when he,<n id="1" /> the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide<n id="2" /> you into all truth.<n id="3" /> For he will not speak on his own authority,<n id="4" /> but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you<n id="5" /> what is to come.<n id="6" />

So also you have sorrow<n id="1" /> now, but <i>I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from youi>.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor&#8217;s residence.<n id="1" /> (Now it was very early morning.)<n id="2" /> They<n id="3" /> did not go into the governor&#8217;s residence<n id="4" /> so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

Simon Peter, Thomas<n id="1" /> (called Didymus),<n id="2" /> Nathanael<n id="3" /> (who was from Cana<n id="4" /> in Galilee), the sons<n id="5" /> of Zebedee,<n id="6" /> and two other disciples<n id="7" /> of his were together.

He told them, &#8220;Throw your net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.&#8221;<n id="1" /> So they threw the net,<n id="2" /> and were not able to pull it in because of the large number of fish.p>

came to Jesus<n id="1" /> at night<n id="2" /> and said to him, &#8220;Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs<n id="3" /> that you do unless God is with him.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">So Jesus answered them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="2" /> the Son can do nothing on his own initiative,<n id="3" /> but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father<n id="4" /> does, the Son does likewise.<n id="5" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus, while teaching in the temple courts,<n id="1" /> cried out,<n id="2" /> &#8220;You both know me and know where I come from!<n id="3" /> And I have not come on my own initiative,<n id="4" /> but the one who sent me<n id="5" /> is true. You do not know him,<n id="6" />

You people<n id="1" /> are from<n id="2" /> your father the devil, and you want to do what your father desires.<n id="3" /> He<n id="4" /> was a murderer from the beginning, and does not uphold the truth,<n id="5" /> because there is no truth in him. Whenever he lies,<n id="6" /> he speaks according to his own nature,<n id="7" /> because he is a liar and the father of lies.<n id="8" />

Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?<n id="1" /> The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,<n id="2" /> but the Father residing in me performs<n id="3" /> his miraculous deeds.<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus (but secretly, because he feared the Jewish leaders<n id="1" />),<n id="2" /> asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. Pilate<n id="3" /> gave him permission, so he went and took the body away.<n id="4" />
