When<n id="1" /> Jesus saw her, he called her to him<n id="2" /> and said, &#8220;Woman,<n id="3" /> you are freed<n id="4" /> from your infirmity.&#8221;<n id="5" />

He<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;I tell you the truth,<n id="2" /> this poor widow has put in more than all of them.<n id="3" />

I tell you the truth,<n id="1" /> this generation<n id="2" /> will not pass away until all these things take place.

Her<n id="1" /> neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown<n id="2" /> great mercy to her, and they rejoiced<n id="3" /> with her.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> there were shepherds<n id="2" /> nearby<n id="3" /> living out in the field, keeping guard<n id="4" /> over their flock at night.

<t /><p class="bodytext">There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old,<n id="1" /> having been married to her husband for seven years until his death.

She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years.<n id="1" /> She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.<n id="2" />

At that moment,<n id="1" /> she came up to them<n id="2" /> and began to give thanks to God and to speak<n id="3" /> about the child<n id="4" /> to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.<n id="5" />p>

because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying.<n id="1" />p> <p class="bodytext">As Jesus was on his way, the crowds pressed<n id="2" /> around him.

<t /><p class="bodytext">At that time,<n id="1" /> some Pharisees<n id="2" /> came up and said to Jesus,<n id="3" /> &#8220;Get away from here,<n id="4" /> because Herod<n id="5" /> wants to kill you.&#8221;

That very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other,<n id="1" /> for prior to this they had been enemies.<n id="2" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> that very day two of them<n id="2" /> were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles<n id="3" /> from Jerusalem.<n id="4" />

So<n id="1" /> they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem.<n id="2" /> They<n id="3" /> found the eleven and those with them gathered together

The angel replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow<n id="2" /> you. Therefore the child<n id="3" /> to be born<n id="4" /> will be holy;<n id="5" /> he will be called the Son of God.p>

Stay<n id="1" /> in that same house, eating and drinking what they give you,<n id="2" /> for the worker deserves his pay.<n id="3" /> Do not move around from house to house.

But Martha was distracted<n id="1" /> with all the preparations she had to make,<n id="2" /> so<n id="3" /> she came up to him and said, &#8220;Lord, don&#8217;t you care<n id="4" /> that my sister has left me to do all the work<n id="5" /> alone? Tell<n id="6" /> her to help me.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> told this parable: &#8220;A man had a fig tree<n id="3" /> planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.

Then<n id="1" /> the experts in the law<n id="2" /> and the chief priests wanted to arrest<n id="3" /> him that very hour, because they realized he had told this parable against them. But<n id="4" /> they were afraid of the people.p>

For they all offered their gifts out of their wealth.<n id="1" /> But she, out of her poverty, put in everything she had to live on.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

Day after day when I was with you in the temple courts,<n id="1" /> you did not arrest me.<n id="2" /> But this is your hour,<n id="3" /> and that of the power<n id="4" /> of darkness!&#8221;p>
