Everyone who hates his fellow Christian<n id="1" /> is a murderer,<n id="2" /> and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing<n id="3" /> in him.

We have come to know love by this:<n id="1" /> that Jesus<n id="2" /> laid down<n id="3" /> his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians.

No one has seen God at any time.<n id="1" /> If we love one another, God resides<n id="2" /> in us, and his love is perfected in us.<n id="3" />

By this<n id="1" /> we know that we reside in God<n id="2" /> and he in us: in that he has given us of his Spirit.<n id="3" />

By this<n id="1" /> we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.

And this is the testimony: God<n id="1" /> has given us eternal life,<n id="2" /> and this life is in his Son.

<p class="bodytext">And this is the confidence that we have before him: that<n id="1" /> whenever<n id="2" /> we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

And if we know<n id="1" /> that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.

<p class="bodytext">Now as for you, the anointing<n id="1" /> that you received from him<n id="2" /> resides<n id="3" /> in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his<n id="4" /> anointing teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as<n id="5" /> it<n id="6" /> has taught you, you reside<n id="7" /> in him.p>

<p class="bodytext">If anyone says<n id="1" /> &#8220;I love God&#8221; and yet<n id="2" /> hates his fellow Christian,<n id="3" /> he is a liar, because the one who does not love his fellow Christian<n id="4" /> whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.<n id="5" />

What we have seen and heard we announce<n id="1" /> to you too, so that<n id="2" /> you may have fellowship<n id="3" /> with us (and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ).

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> this is the gospel<n id="2" /> message<n id="3" /> we have heard from him<n id="4" /> and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.<n id="5" />

But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses<n id="1" /> us from all sin.<n id="2" />

Everyone who has been fathered<n id="1" /> by God does not practice sin,<n id="2" /> because<n id="3" /> God&#8217;s<n id="4" /> seed<n id="5" /> resides in him, and thus<n id="6" /> he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God.

By this<n id="1" /> the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: Everyone who does not practice righteousness &#8211; the one who does not love his fellow Christian<n id="2" /> &#8211; is not of God.p>

And the person who keeps his commandments resides<n id="1" /> in God,<n id="2" /> and God<n id="3" /> in him. Now by this<n id="4" /> we know that God<n id="5" /> resides in us: by the Spirit he has given us.p>

In this<n id="1" /> is love: not that<n id="2" /> we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice<n id="3" /> for our sins.p>

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ<n id="1" /> has been fathered<n id="2" /> by God, and everyone who loves the father<n id="3" /> loves the child fathered by him.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">If we accept the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, because<n id="1" /> this<n id="2" /> is the testimony of God that<n id="3" /> he has testified concerning his Son.

If<n id="1" /> anyone sees his fellow Christian<n id="2" /> committing a sin not resulting in death,<n id="3" /> he should ask, and God<n id="4" /> will grant<n id="5" /> life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death.<n id="6" /> There is a sin resulting in death.<n id="7" /> I do not say that he should ask about that.
