Now these are the names of the twelve apostles:<n id="1" /> first, Simon<n id="2" /> (called Peter), and Andrew his brother; James son of Zebedee and John his brother;

Isn&#8217;t this the carpenter&#8217;s son? Isn&#8217;t his mother named Mary?<n id="1" /> And aren&#8217;t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?

And Jesus answered him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood<n id="2" /> did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven!

Andrew brought Simon<n id="1" /> to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, &#8220;You are Simon, the son of John.<n id="2" /> You will be called Cephas&#8221; (which is translated Peter).<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, pulled it out and struck the high priest&#8217;s slave,<n id="1" /> cutting off his right ear.<n id="2" /> (Now the slave&#8217;s name was Malchus.)<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Simon Peter and another disciple followed them as they brought Jesus to Annas.<n id="1" /> (Now the other disciple<n id="2" /> was acquainted with the high priest, and he went with Jesus into the high priest&#8217;s courtyard.)<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Meanwhile Simon Peter was standing in the courtyard<n id="1" /> warming himself. They said to him, &#8220;You aren&#8217;t one of his disciples too, are you?&#8221;<n id="2" /> Peter<n id="3" /> denied it: &#8220;I am not!&#8221;

Simon Peter, Thomas<n id="1" /> (called Didymus),<n id="2" /> Nathanael<n id="3" /> (who was from Cana<n id="4" /> in Galilee), the sons<n id="5" /> of Zebedee,<n id="6" /> and two other disciples<n id="7" /> of his were together.

Simon Peter told them, &#8220;I am going fishing.&#8221; &#8220;We will go with you,&#8221; they replied.<n id="1" /> They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.p>

So Simon Peter went aboard and pulled the net to shore. It was<n id="1" /> full of large fish, one hundred fifty-three,<n id="2" /> but although there were so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus<n id="1" /> said<n id="2" /> a second time, &#8220;Simon, son of John, do you love me?&#8221; He replied,<n id="3" /> &#8220;Yes, Lord, you know I love you.&#8221; Jesus<n id="4" /> told him, &#8220;Shepherd my sheep.&#8221;

When<n id="1" /> they had entered Jerusalem,<n id="2" /> they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter<n id="3" /> and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were there.<n id="4" />

He said, &#8220;Yes.&#8221; When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,<n id="1" /> &#8220;What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings collect tolls or taxes &#8211; from their sons<n id="2" /> or from foreigners?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then the disciple whom<n id="1" /> Jesus loved<n id="2" /> said to Peter, &#8220;It is the Lord!&#8221; So Simon Peter, when he heard that it was the Lord, tucked in his outer garment (for he had nothing on underneath it),<n id="3" /> and plunged<n id="4" /> into the sea.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, &#8220;Simon, son of John,<n id="1" /> do you love me more than these do?&#8221;<n id="2" /> He replied,<n id="3" /> &#8220;Yes, Lord, you know I love you.&#8221;<n id="4" /> Jesus<n id="5" /> told him, &#8220;Feed my lambs.&#8221;

Jesus<n id="1" /> said<n id="2" /> a third time, &#8220;Simon, son of John, do you love me?&#8221; Peter was distressed<n id="3" /> that Jesus<n id="4" /> asked<n id="5" /> him a third time, &#8220;Do you love me?&#8221; and said,<n id="6" /> &#8220;Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.&#8221; Jesus<n id="7" /> replied,<n id="8" /> &#8220;Feed my sheep.
