They include the Anakites,<n id="1" /> a numerous<n id="2" /> and tall people whom you know about and of whom it is said, &#8220;Who is able to resist the Anakites?&#8221;

He is the one you should praise;<n id="1" /> he is your God, the one who has done these great and awesome things for you that you have seen.

then the <sc>Lordsc> will increase your punishments and those of your descendants &#8211; great and long-lasting afflictions and severe, enduring illnesses.

Then all the nations will ask, &#8220;Why has the <sc>Lordsc> done all this to this land? What is this fierce, heated display of anger<n id="1" /> all about?&#8221;

So the <sc>Lordsc> has uprooted them from their land in anger, wrath, and great rage and has deported them to another land, as is clear today.&#8221;

Get up now,<n id="1" /> resume your journey, heading for<n id="2" /> the Amorite hill country, to all its areas<n id="3" /> including the arid country,<n id="4" /> the highlands, the Shephelah,<n id="5" /> the Negev,<n id="6" /> and the coastal plain &#8211; all of Canaan and Lebanon as far as the Great River, that is, the Euphrates.

They<n id="1" /> must not discriminate in judgment, but hear the lowly<n id="2" /> and the great alike. Nor should they be intimidated by human beings, for judgment belongs to God. If the matter being adjudicated is too difficult for them, they should bring it before me for a hearing.p>

Then we left Horeb and passed through all that immense, forbidding wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the <sc>Lordsc> our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea.

All along the way I, the <sc>Lordsc> your God,<n id="1" /> have blessed your every effort.<n id="2" /> I have<n id="3" /> been attentive to<n id="4" /> your travels through this great wasteland. These forty years I have<n id="5" /> been with you; you have lacked for nothing.&#8217;&#8221;p>

So be sure to do them, because this will testify of your wise understanding<n id="1" /> to the people who will learn of all these statutes and say, &#8220;Indeed, this great nation is a very wise<n id="2" /> people.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said these things to your entire assembly at the mountain from the middle of the fire, the cloud, and the darkness with a loud voice, and that was all he said.<n id="1" /> Then he inscribed the words<n id="2" /> on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then when the <sc>Lordsc> your God brings you to the land he promised your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you &#8211; a land with large, fine cities you did not build,

the great judgments<n id="1" /> you saw, the signs and wonders, the strength and power<n id="2" /> by which he<n id="3" /> brought you out &#8211; thus the <sc>Lordsc> your God will do to all the people you fear.

For the <sc>Lordsc> your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God who is unbiased and takes no bribe,

This accords with what happened at Horeb in the day of the assembly. You asked the <sc>Lordsc> your God: &#8220;Please do not make us hear the voice of the <sc>Lordsc> our<n id="1" /> God any more or see this great fire any more lest we die.&#8221;

Then you must affirm before the <sc>Lord your Godsc>, &#8220;A wandering<n id="1" /> Aramean<n id="2" /> was my ancestor,<n id="3" /> and he went down to Egypt and lived there as a foreigner with a household few in number,<n id="4" /> but there he became a great, powerful, and numerous people.
