Instead, her late husband&#8217;s brother must go to her, marry her,<n id="1" /> and perform the duty of a brother-in-law.<n id="2" />

You must go to the priest in office at that time and say to him, &#8220;I declare today to the <sc>Lordsc> your<n id="1" /> God that I have come into the land that the <sc>Lordsc><n id="2" /> promised<n id="3" /> to our ancestors<n id="4" /> to give us.&#8221;

He will withhold from all of them his children&#8217;s flesh that he is eating (since there is nothing else left), because of the severity of the siege by which your enemy will constrict<n id="1" /> you in your villages.

Among those nations you will have no rest nor will there be a place of peaceful rest for the soles of your feet, for there the <sc>Lordsc> will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a spirit of despair.

I also call on you<n id="1" /> to love the <sc>Lordsc> your God, to obey him and be loyal to him, for he gives you life and enables you to live continually<n id="2" /> in the land the <sc>Lordsc> promised to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.&#8221;p>

At that time<n id="1" /> my anger will erupt against them<n id="2" /> and I will abandon them and hide my face from them until they are devoured. Many disasters and distresses will overcome<n id="3" /> them<n id="4" /> so that they<n id="5" /> will say at that time, &#8216;Have not these disasters<n id="6" /> overcome us<n id="7" /> because our<n id="8" /> God is not among us<n id="9" />?&#8217;

You<n id="1" /> stood before the <sc>Lordsc> your God at Horeb and he<n id="2" /> said to me, &#8220;Assemble the people before me so that I can tell them my commands.<n id="3" /> Then they will learn to revere me all the days they live in the land, and they will instruct their children.&#8221;

Beware that the heart of no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you turns away from the <sc>Lordsc> our God today to pursue and serve the gods of those nations; beware that there is among you no root producing poisonous and bitter fruit.<n id="1" />
