So they sent their sister Rebekah on her way, accompanied by her female attendant, with Abraham’s servant and his men.

When Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well with fresh flowing ¹  water there,

In this way Jacob ¹  became extremely prosperous. He owned ²  large flocks, male and female servants, camels, and donkeys.

So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find a man like Joseph, ¹  one in whom the Spirit of God is present?” ² 

We are all the sons of one man; we are honest men! Your servants are not spies.”

They answered him, “Why does my lord say such things? ¹  Far be it from your servants to do such a thing! ² 

My lord asked his servants, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’

When we returned to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

“Then your servant my father said to us, ‘You know that my wife gave me two sons. ¹ 

“So now, when I return to your servant my father, and the boy is not with us – his very life is bound up in his son’s life. ¹ 

They replied, “You have saved our lives! You are showing us favor, ¹  and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.” ² 

Then his brothers also came and threw themselves down before him; they said, “Here we are; we are your slaves.”

On the third day it was Pharaoh’s birthday, so he gave a feast for all his servants. He “lifted up” ¹  the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker in the midst of his servants.

Judah replied, “What can we say ¹  to my lord? What can we speak? How can we clear ourselves? ²  God has exposed the sin of your servants! ³  We are now my lord’s slaves, we and the one in whose possession the cup was found.”

Then Judah approached him and said, “My lord, please allow your servant to speak a word with you. ¹  Please do not get angry with your servant, ²  for you are just like Pharaoh. ³ 

Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as temporary residents ¹  in the land. There ²  is no pasture for your servants’ flocks because the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. So now, please let your servants live in the land of Goshen.”

And let me get ¹  a bit of food ²  so that you may refresh yourselves ³  since you have passed by your servant’s home. After that you may be on your way.” ⁴  “All right,” they replied, “you may do as you say.”

Early in the morning ¹  Abimelech summoned ²  all his servants. When he told them about all these things, ³  they ⁴  were terrified.

So Abimelech gave ¹  sheep, cattle, and male and female servants to Abraham. He also gave his wife Sarah back to him.

Abraham said to his servant, the senior one ¹  in his household who was in charge of everything he had, “Put your hand under my thigh ²
