&#8220;The following tribes<n id="1" /> must stand to bless the people on Mount Gerizim when you cross the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.

And it is not across the sea, as though one must say, &#8220;Who will cross over to the other side of the sea and get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?&#8221;

Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to him, &#8220;This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, &#8216;I will give it to your descendants.&#8217;<n id="1" /> I have let you see it,<n id="2" /> but you will not cross over there.&#8221;p>

Now the length of time it took for us to go from Kadesh Barnea to the crossing of Wadi Zered was thirty-eight years, time for all the military men of that generation to die, just as the <sc>Lordsc> had vowed to them.

<p class="bodytext">Get up, make your way across Wadi Arnon. Look! I have already delivered over to you Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon,<n id="1" /> and his land. Go ahead! Take it! Engage him in war!

just as the descendants of Esau who live at Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for me, until I cross the Jordan to the land the <sc>Lordsc> our God is giving us.&#8221;

But King Sihon of Heshbon was unwilling to allow us to pass near him because the <sc>Lordsc> our<n id="1" /> God had made him obstinate<n id="2" /> and stubborn<n id="3" /> so that he might deliver him over to you<n id="4" /> this very day.

<t /><p class="bodytext">At that time I instructed you as follows: &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> your God has given you this land for your possession. You warriors are to cross over before your fellow Israelites<n id="1" /> equipped for battle.

I also commanded Joshua at the same time, &#8220;You have seen everything the <sc>Lordsc> your God did to these two kings; he<n id="1" /> will do the same to all the kingdoms where you are going.<n id="2" />

But the <sc>Lordsc> was angry at me because of you and would not listen to me. Instead, he<n id="1" /> said to me, &#8220;Enough of that!<n id="2" /> Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.

But the <sc>Lordsc> became angry with me because of you and vowed that I would never cross the Jordan nor enter the good land that he<n id="1" /> is about to give you.<n id="2" />

I invoke heaven and earth as witnesses against you<n id="1" /> today that you will surely and swiftly be removed<n id="2" /> from the very land you are about to cross the Jordan to possess. You will not last long there because you will surely be<n id="3" /> annihilated.

Understand today that the <sc>Lordsc> your God who goes before you is a devouring fire; he will defeat and subdue them before you. You will dispossess and destroy them quickly just as he<n id="1" /> has told you.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now pay attention to all the commandments<n id="1" /> I am giving<n id="2" /> you today, so that you may be strong enough to enter and possess the land where you are headed,<n id="3" />

Suppose a man or woman is discovered among you &#8211; in one of your villages<n id="1" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you &#8211; who sins before the Lord your God<n id="2" /> and breaks his covenant

<p class="bodytext">When a man is newly married, he need not go into<n id="1" /> the army nor be obligated in any way; he must be free to stay at home for a full year and bring joy to<n id="2" /> the wife he has married.p>

Then you shall say before the <sc>Lordsc> your God, &#8220;I have removed the sacred offering<n id="1" /> from my house and given it to the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows just as you have commanded me.<n id="2" /> I have not violated or forgotten your commandments.

When you cross the Jordan River<n id="1" /> to the land the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you, you must erect great stones and cover<n id="2" /> them with plaster.

Then you must inscribe on them all the words of this law when you cross over, so that you may enter the land the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey just as the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of your ancestors,<n id="1" /> said to you.

I declare to you this very day that you will certainly<n id="1" /> perish! You will not extend your time in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.<n id="2" />
