Then Esau realized<n id="1" /> that the Canaanite women<n id="2" /> were displeasing to<n id="3" /> his father Isaac.

<p class="bodytext">Jacob sent messengers on ahead<n id="1" /> to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the region<n id="2" /> of Edom.

<p class="bodytext">Jacob<n id="1" /> stayed there that night. Then he sent<n id="2" /> as a gift<n id="3" /> to his brother Esau

But Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, hugged his neck, and kissed him. Then they both wept.

But Esau said, &#8220;I have plenty, my brother. Keep what belongs to you.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,

<p class="bodytext">So Esau hated<n id="1" /> Jacob because of the blessing his father had given to his brother.<n id="2" /> Esau said privately,<n id="3" /> &#8220;The time<n id="4" /> of mourning for my father is near; then I will kill<n id="5" /> my brother Jacob!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">When Rebekah heard what her older son Esau had said,<n id="1" /> she quickly summoned<n id="2" /> her younger son Jacob and told him, &#8220;Look, your brother Esau is planning to get revenge by killing you.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">These were the sons of Esau&#8217;s son Reuel: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in the land of Edom; these were the sons<n id="1" /> of Esau&#8217;s wife Basemath.p>

When his brother came out with<n id="1" /> his hand clutching Esau&#8217;s heel, they named him Jacob.<n id="2" /> Isaac was sixty years old<n id="3" /> when they were born.p>

<p class="bodytext">When the boys grew up, Esau became a skilled<n id="1" /> hunter, a man of the open fields, but Jacob was an even-tempered man, living in tents.<n id="2" />

So Esau said to Jacob, &#8220;Feed<n id="1" /> me some of the red stuff &#8211; yes, this red stuff &#8211; because I&#8217;m starving!&#8221; (That is why he was also called<n id="2" /> Edom.)<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> Esau was forty years old,<n id="2" /> he married<n id="3" /> Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, as well as Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

<t /><p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he was almost blind,<n id="2" /> he called his older<n id="3" /> son Esau and said to him, &#8220;My son!&#8221; &#8220;Here I am!&#8221; Esau<n id="4" /> replied.

Rebekah said to her son Jacob, &#8220;Look, I overheard your father tell your brother Esau,

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;But Esau my brother is a hairy man,&#8221; Jacob protested to his mother Rebekah, &#8220;and I have smooth skin!<n id="1" />

Then Rebekah took her older son Esau&#8217;s best clothes, which she had with her in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob.

Then Isaac said to Jacob, &#8220;Come closer so I can touch you,<n id="1" /> my son, and know for certain if you really are my son Esau.&#8221;<n id="2" />

So Jacob went over to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, &#8220;The voice is Jacob&#8217;s, but the hands are Esau&#8217;s.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">When Esau heard<n id="1" /> his father&#8217;s words, he wailed loudly and bitterly.<n id="2" /> He said to his father, &#8220;Bless me too, my father!&#8221;
