I will do this in order to capture the hearts of the house of Israel, who have alienated themselves from me on account of all their idols.’

The nations heard about him; he was trapped in their pit. They brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt. ¹ 

The nations – the surrounding regions – attacked him. They threw their net over him; he was caught in their pit.

They will descend from their ships – all who handle the oar, the sailors and all the sea captains – they will stand on the land.

They captured him and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah ¹  in the territory of Hamath and he passed sentence on him there.

But I will throw my net over him, and he will be caught in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans ¹  (but he will not see it), ²  and there he will die. ³
