When he taunted Israel, Jonathan, the son of David&#8217;s brother Shimeah, killed him.

<p class="bodytext">The son of Jonathan:p> <p class="bodytext">Meribbaal,<n id="1" /> who was the father of Micah.p>

When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea,<n id="1" /> David&#8217;s brother, killed him.p>

<p class="bodytext">The king had mercy on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, in light of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s oath that had been taken between David and Jonathan son of Saul.

Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with the rest of his gear, including his sword, his bow, and even his belt.p>

So Jonathan told David, &#8220;My father Saul is trying<n id="1" /> to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Find<n id="2" /> a hiding place and stay in seclusion.<n id="3" />

The king sat down in his usual place by the wall, with Jonathan opposite him<n id="1" /> and Abner at his side.<n id="2" /> But David&#8217;s place was vacant.

Then Saul threw his spear at Jonathan<n id="1" /> in order to strike him down. So Jonathan was convinced<n id="2" /> that his father had decided to kill David.

Then Jonathan gave his equipment to the servant who was with him. He said to him, &#8220;Go, take these things back to the city.&#8221;p>

The Philistines stayed right on the heels<n id="1" /> of Saul and his sons. They<n id="2" /> struck down Saul&#8217;s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.

<p class="poetry">From the blood of the slain, from the fat of warriors,p> <p class="poetry">the bow of Jonathan was not turned away.p> <p class="poetry">The sword of Saul never returned<n id="1" /> empty.p>

<p class="poetry">I grieve over you, my brother Jonathan!p> <p class="poetry">You were very dear to me.p> <p class="poetry">Your love was more special to me than the love of women.p>

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Then David asked, &#8220;Is anyone still left from the family<n id="2" /> of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?&#8221;p>

When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed low with his face toward the ground.<n id="1" /> David said, &#8220;Mephibosheth?&#8221; He replied, &#8220;Yes, at your service.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

David<n id="1" /> brought the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son from there; they also gathered up the bones of those who had been executed.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the king&#8217;s storehouses;p> <p class="bodytext">Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the field, in the cities, in the towns, and in the towers.p>

The officials were very angry<n id="1" /> at Jeremiah. They had him flogged and put in prison in the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary, which they had converted into a place for confining prisoners.<n id="2" />p>
