Solomon answered all her questions; there was no question too complex for the king.<n id="1" />

There were twelve statues of lions on the six steps, one lion at each end of each step. There was nothing like it in any other kingdom.<n id="1" />p>

He told the judges, &#8220;Be careful what you do,<n id="1" /> for you are not judging for men, but for the <sc>Lordsc>, who will be with you when you make judicial decisions.

He did what the <sc>Lordsc> approved, just as his father Uzziah had done.<n id="1" /> (He did not, however, have the audacity to enter the temple.)<n id="2" /> Yet the people were still sinning.p>

Ahaz passed away<n id="1" /> and was buried in the City of David;<n id="2" /> they did not bring him to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah replaced him as king.p>

There was a great celebration in Jerusalem, unlike anything that had occurred in Jerusalem since the time of King Solomon son of David of Israel.<n id="1" />

Now don&#8217;t let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this. Don&#8217;t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to rescue his people from my power or the power of my predecessors. So how<n id="1" /> can your gods rescue<n id="2" /> you from my power?&#8217;&#8221;p>

Of course, who can really build a temple for him, since the sky<n id="1" /> and the highest heavens cannot contain him? Who am I that I should build him a temple! It will really be only a place to offer sacrifices before him.<n id="2" />p>

He told David,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Since the day I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a temple in which to live.<n id="2" /> Nor did I choose a man as leader of my people Israel.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;God does not really live with humankind on the earth!<n id="1" /> Look, if the sky and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this temple I have built!

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Foreigners, who do not belong to your people Israel, will come from a distant land because of your great reputation<n id="1" /> and your ability to accomplish mighty deeds;<n id="2" /> they will come and direct their prayers toward this temple.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;The time will come when your people<n id="1" /> will sin against you (for there is no one who is sinless!) and you will be angry at them and deliver them over to their enemies, who will take them as prisoners to their land, whether far away or close by.

<p class="bodytext">Solomon moved Pharaoh&#8217;s daughter up from the City of David<n id="1" /> to the palace he had built for her, for he said, &#8220;My wife must not live in the palace of King David of Israel, for the places where the ark of the <sc>Lordsc> has entered are holy.&#8221;p>

I did not believe these things until I came and saw them with my own eyes. Indeed, I didn&#8217;t hear even half the story!<n id="1" /> Your wisdom surpasses what was reported to me.

&#8216;The <sc>Lordsc> says this: &#8220;Do not attack and make war with your brothers. Each of you go home, for I have caused this to happen.&#8221;&#8217;&#8221;<n id="1" /> They obeyed the <sc>Lordsc> and called off the attack against Jeroboam.<n id="2" />p>
