He was given daily provisions by the king for the rest of his life until the day he died.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">He died just as the <sc>Lordsc> had prophesied through Elijah.<n id="1" /> In the second year of the reign of King Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat over Judah, Ahaziah&#8217;s brother Jehoram replaced him as king of Israel, because he had no son.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Elijah said to him, &#8220;Elisha, stay here, for the <sc>Lordsc> has sent me to Jericho.&#8221;<n id="1" /> But he replied, &#8220;As certainly as the <sc>Lordsc> lives and as you live, I will not leave you.&#8221; So they went to Jericho.

<p class="bodytext">Elijah said to him, &#8220;Stay here, for the <sc>Lordsc> has sent me to the Jordan.&#8221; But he replied, &#8220;As certainly as the <sc>Lordsc> lives and as you live, I will not leave you.&#8221; So they traveled on together.

<p class="bodytext">He went up from there to Bethel.<n id="1" /> As he was traveling up the road, some young boys<n id="2" /> came out of the city and made fun of him, saying, &#8220;Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Elisha said to the king of Israel, &#8220;Why are you here?<n id="1" /> Go to your father&#8217;s prophets or your mother&#8217;s prophets!&#8221; The king of Israel replied to him, &#8220;No, for the <sc>Lordsc> is the one who summoned these three kings so that he can hand them over to Moab.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now a wife of one of the prophets<n id="1" /> appealed<n id="2" /> to Elisha for help, saying, &#8220;Your servant, my husband is dead. You know that your servant was a loyal follower of the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="3" /> Now the creditor is coming to take away my two boys to be his servants.&#8221;

Elisha said to Gehazi,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Tell her, &#8216;Look, you have treated us with such great respect.<n id="2" /> What can I do for you? Can I put in a good word for you with the king or the commander of the army?&#8217;&#8221; She replied, &#8220;I&#8217;m quite secure.&#8221;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">Now Gehazi went on ahead of them. He placed the staff on the child&#8217;s face, but there was no sound or response. When he came back to Elisha<n id="1" /> he told him, &#8220;The child did not wake up.&#8221;

The king asked the woman about it, and she gave him the details.<n id="1" /> The king assigned a eunuch to take care of her request and ordered him,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Give her back everything she owns, as well as the amount of crops her field produced from the day she left the land until now.&#8221;p>

So Jehu<n id="1" /> got up and went inside. Then the prophet<n id="2" /> poured the olive oil on his head and said to him, &#8220;This is what the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel says, &#8216;I have designated you as king over the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s people Israel.

<p class="bodytext">When Jehu rejoined<n id="1" /> his master&#8217;s servants, they<n id="2" /> asked him, &#8220;Is everything all right?<n id="3" /> Why did this madman visit you?&#8221; He replied, &#8220;Ah, it&#8217;s not important. You know what kind of man he is and the kinds of things he says.&#8221;<n id="4" />

When they went back and told him, he said, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s word through his servant, Elijah the Tishbite, has come to pass. He warned,<n id="1" /> &#8216;In the plot of land at Jezreel, dogs will devour Jezebel&#8217;s flesh.

They went inside to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside. He had told them, &#8220;If any of the men inside get away, you will pay with your lives!&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Eliakim son of Hilkiah, the palace supervisor, accompanied by Shebna the scribe and Joah son of Asaph, the secretary, went to Hezekiah with their clothes torn<n id="1" /> and reported to him what the chief adviser had said.
