For the cloud of the <sc>Lordsc> was on the tabernacle by day, but fire would be<n id="1" /> on it at night, in plain view<n id="2" /> of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.p>

I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors<n id="1" /> whom I brought out from the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;&#8221;p>

So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof,<n id="1" /> and Absalom had sex with<n id="2" /> his father&#8217;s concubines in the sight of all Israel.p>

Many were bringing presents<n id="1" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> in Jerusalem and precious gifts to King Hezekiah of Judah. From that time on he was respected by<n id="2" /> all the nations.p>

Ezra opened the book in plain view<n id="1" /> of all the people, for he was elevated above all the people. When he opened the book,<n id="2" /> all the people stood up.

<p class="bodytext">Then the prophet Jeremiah responded to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple.

&#8220;Take some large stones<n id="1" /> and bury them in the mortar of the clay pavement<n id="2" /> at the entrance of Pharaoh&#8217;s residence<n id="3" /> here in Tahpanhes. Do it while the people of Judah present there are watching.<n id="4" />

They will burn down your houses and execute judgments on you in front of many women. Thus I will put a stop to your prostitution, and you will no longer give gifts to your clients.<n id="1" />

I acted for the sake of my reputation,<n id="1" /> so that I would not be profaned before the nations among whom they lived,<n id="2" /> before whom I revealed myself by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.<n id="3" />p>

But I refrained from doing so,<n id="1" /> and acted instead for the sake of my reputation, so that I would not be profaned before the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

<p class="poetry">By the multitude of your iniquities, through the sinfulness of your trade,p> <p class="poetry">you desecrated your sanctuaries.p> <p class="poetry">So I drew fire out from within you;p> <p class="poetry">it consumed you,p> <p class="poetry">and I turned you to ashes on the earthp> <p class="poetry">before the eyes of all who saw you.p>

When I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will magnify myself among them in the sight of many nations.

Moses and Aaron did so,<n id="1" /> just as the <sc>Lordsc> had commanded. Moses raised<n id="2" /> the staff<n id="3" /> and struck the water that was in the Nile right before the eyes<n id="4" /> of Pharaoh and his servants,<n id="5" /> and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.<n id="6" />

I will be standing<n id="1" /> before you there on<n id="2" /> the rock in Horeb, and you will strike<n id="3" /> the rock, and water will come out of it so that the people may drink.&#8221;<n id="4" /> And Moses did so in plain view<n id="5" /> of the elders of Israel.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;If a man has sexual intercourse with<n id="1" /> his sister, whether the daughter of his father or his mother, so that he sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness, it is a disgrace. They must be cut off in the sight of the children of their people.<n id="2" /> He has exposed his sister&#8217;s nakedness; he will bear his punishment for iniquity.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> spoke to Moses and Aaron, &#8220;Because you did not trust me enough<n id="1" /> to show me as holy<n id="2" /> before<n id="3" /> the Israelites, therefore you will not bring this community into the land I have given them.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Just then<n id="1" /> one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers<n id="2" /> a Midianite woman in the plain view of Moses and of<n id="3" /> the whole community of the Israelites, while they<n id="4" /> were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
