When he says above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you did not desire nor did you take delight in them” ¹  (which are offered according to the law),

“It will not be like the covenant ¹  that I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I had no regard for them, says the Lord.

“For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put ¹  my laws in their minds ²  and I will inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God and they will be my people. ³ 

The place where they serve is ¹  a sketch ²  and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, just as Moses was warned by God as he was about to complete the tabernacle. For he says, “See that you make everything according to the design ³  shown to you on the mountain.” ⁴ 

And it could be said that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid a tithe through Abraham.

and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that God has commanded you to keep.” ¹ 

For those who speak in such a way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.

but to repeat the text cited earlier: ¹  “They will never enter my rest!”

So God ¹  again ordains a certain day, “Today,” speaking through David ²  after so long a time, as in the words quoted before, ³  “O, that today you would listen as he speaks! ⁴  Do not harden your hearts.”

Instead someone testified somewhere: “What is man that you think of him ¹  or the son of man that you care for him?

Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.” ¹ 

For we know the one who said, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” ¹  and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” ² 

But now Christ has come ¹  as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,

by the fresh and living way that he inaugurated for us ¹  through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, ² 

When he speaks of a new covenant, ¹  he makes the first obsolete. Now what is growing obsolete and aging is about to disappear. ² 

Indeed according to the law almost everything was purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

So when he came into the world, he said, “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.

but Jesus ¹  did so ²  with a sworn affirmation by the one who said to him, “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever’” ³  –

And, “You founded the earth in the beginning, Lord, ¹  and the heavens are the works of your hands.

“As I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest!’” ¹
