I will place the corpses of the people of Israel in front of their idols, ¹  and I will scatter your bones around your altars.

But as for me, my eye will not pity them nor will I spare ¹  them; I hereby repay them for what they have done.” ² 

You fear the sword, so the sword I will bring against you,’ declares the sovereign Lord.

“Then they will know that I am the Lord when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them among foreign countries.

I also swore ¹  to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them throughout the lands. ² 

I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you among various countries; I will remove your impurity from you. ¹ 

“For this is what the sovereign Lord says: Bring up an army ¹  against them and subject them ²  to terror and plunder.

They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die violently ¹  in the heart of the seas.

“‘Therefore, this is what the sovereign Lord says: Look, I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will kill ¹  every person and every animal.

I will desolate Pathros, I will ignite a fire in Zoan, and I will execute judgments on Thebes.

I will execute judgments on Egypt. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”

I will knock your bow out of your left hand and make your arrows fall from your right hand.

I made the nations shake at the sound of its fall, when I threw it down to Sheol, along with those who descend to the pit. ¹  Then all the trees of Eden, the choicest and the best of Lebanon, all that were well-watered, were comforted in the earth below.

not to many peoples of unintelligible speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand ¹  – surely if ²  I had sent you to them, they would listen to you!

Soon now I will pour out my rage ¹  on you; I will fully vent my anger against you. I will judge you according to your behavior. I will hold you accountable for all your abominable practices.

He said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courtyards with corpses. Go!” So they went out and struck people down throughout the city.

But those whose hearts are devoted to detestable things and abominations, I hereby repay them for what they have done, ¹  says the sovereign Lord.”

“Or suppose I were to bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through the land,’ and I were to kill both people and animals.

“‘Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: As surely as I live, I will certainly repay him ¹  for despising my oath and breaking my covenant!

Slanderous men shed blood within you. ¹  Those who live within you eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains; ²  they commit obscene acts among you. ³
