Then what was spoken by Jeremiah<n id="1" /> the prophet was fulfilled: &#8220;<i>They took the thirty silver coins, the price of the one whose price had been set by the people of Israeli>,<n id="2" />

When they were not able to bring him in because of the crowd, they removed the roof<n id="1" /> above Jesus.<n id="2" /> Then,<n id="3" /> after tearing it out, they lowered the stretcher the paralytic was lying on.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> John&#8217;s<n id="2" /> disciples and the Pharisees<n id="3" /> were fasting.<n id="4" /> So<n id="5" /> they came to Jesus<n id="6" /> and said, &#8220;Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don&#8217;t fast?&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> King Herod<n id="2" /> heard this, for Jesus&#8217;<n id="3" /> name had become known. Some<n id="4" /> were saying, &#8220;John the baptizer<n id="5" /> has been raised from the dead, and because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.&#8221;

For Herod himself had sent men, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip&#8217;s wife, because Herod<n id="1" /> had married her.

The Pharisees and the experts in the law asked him, &#8220;Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat<n id="1" /> with unwashed hands?&#8221;

So<n id="1" /> Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth<n id="2" /> in Galilee to Judea, to the city<n id="3" /> of David called Bethlehem,<n id="4" /> because he was of the house<n id="5" /> and family line<n id="6" /> of David.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to his<n id="3" /> disciples, &#8220;Therefore I tell you, do not worry<n id="4" /> about your<n id="5" /> life, what you will eat, or about your<n id="6" /> body, what you will wear.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> took the twelve aside and said to them, &#8220;Look, we are going up to Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">While the people were listening to these things, Jesus<n id="1" /> proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem,<n id="2" /> and because they thought<n id="3" /> that the kingdom of God<n id="4" /> was going to<n id="5" /> appear immediately.

When<n id="1" /> Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him and was hoping to see him perform<n id="2" /> some miraculous sign.<n id="3" />

The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly<n id="1" /> when he hears the bridegroom&#8217;s voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the report of the woman who testified,<n id="1" /> &#8220;He told me everything I ever did.&#8221;

They said to the woman, &#8220;No longer do we believe because of your words, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this one<n id="1" /> really is the Savior of the world.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

For this reason the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> were trying even harder to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was also calling God his own Father, thus making himself equal with God.p>

<p class="bodytext">Now a large crowd of Judeans<n id="1" /> learned<n id="2" /> that Jesus<n id="3" /> was there, and so they came not only because of him<n id="4" /> but also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Now my soul is greatly distressed. And what should I say? &#8216;Father, deliver me<n id="1" /> from this hour&#8217;?<n id="2" /> No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour.<n id="3" />

If you belonged to the world,<n id="1" /> the world would love you as its own.<n id="2" /> However, because you do not belong to the world,<n id="3" /> but I chose you out of the world, for this reason<n id="4" /> the world hates you.<n id="5" />

When a woman gives birth, she has distress<n id="1" /> because her time<n id="2" /> has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being<n id="3" /> has been born into the world.<n id="4" />

Jesus replied, &#8220;You would have no authority<n id="1" /> over me at all, unless it was given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you<n id="2" /> is guilty of greater sin.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>
