So when the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats<n id="1" /> and came to Capernaum<n id="2" /> looking for Jesus.p>

<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus told them, &#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but my Father is giving you the true bread from heaven.

Jesus said to them, &#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,<n id="2" /> you have no life<n id="3" /> in yourselves.

So Jesus&#8217; brothers<n id="1" /> advised him, &#8220;Leave here and go to Judea so your disciples may see your miracles that you are performing.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Then the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> said to one another, &#8220;Where is he<n id="2" /> going to go that we cannot find him?<n id="3" /> He is not going to go to the Jewish people dispersed<n id="4" /> among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Jesus spoke out again,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I am the light of the world.<n id="2" /> The one who follows me will never<n id="3" /> walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then they began asking<n id="1" /> him, &#8220;Who is your father?&#8221; Jesus answered, &#8220;You do not know either me or my Father. If you knew me you would know my Father too.&#8221;<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Jesus<n id="1" /> said to them again,<n id="2" /> &#8220;I am going away, and you will look for me<n id="3" /> but will die in your sin.<n id="4" /> Where I am going you cannot come.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he,<n id="2" /> and I do nothing on my own initiative,<n id="3" /> but I speak just what the Father taught me.<n id="4" />

and said to him, &#8220;Go wash in the pool of Siloam&#8221;<n id="1" /> (which is translated &#8220;sent&#8221;).<n id="2" /> So the blind man<n id="3" /> went away and washed, and came back seeing.p>

He replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The man called Jesus made mud,<n id="2" /> smeared it<n id="3" /> on my eyes and told me,<n id="4" /> &#8216;Go to Siloam and wash.&#8217; So I went and washed, and was able to see.&#8221;<n id="5" />

So the Pharisees asked him again how he had gained his sight.<n id="1" /> He replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;He put mud<n id="3" /> on my eyes and I washed, and now<n id="4" /> I am able to see.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Then they summoned<n id="1" /> the man who used to be blind<n id="2" /> a second time and said to him, &#8220;Promise before God to tell the truth.<n id="3" /> We know that this man<n id="4" /> is a sinner.&#8221;

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> surrounded him and asked,<n id="2" /> &#8220;How long will you keep us in suspense?<n id="3" /> If you are the Christ,<n id="4" /> tell us plainly.&#8221;<n id="5" />

Then the people<n id="1" /> who were with Mary<n id="2" /> in the house consoling her saw her<n id="3" /> get up quickly and go out. They followed her, because they thought she was going to the tomb to weep<n id="4" /> there.p>

<p class="bodytext">Now when Mary came to the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said to him, &#8220;Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Thus Jesus no longer went<n id="1" /> around publicly<n id="2" /> among the Judeans,<n id="3" /> but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim,<n id="4" /> and stayed there with his disciples.

Then Mary took three quarters of a pound<n id="1" /> of expensive aromatic oil from pure nard<n id="2" /> and anointed the feet of Jesus. She<n id="3" /> then wiped his feet dry with her hair. (Now the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfumed oil.)<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Now a large crowd of Judeans<n id="1" /> learned<n id="2" /> that Jesus<n id="3" /> was there, and so they came not only because of him<n id="4" /> but also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.

<p class="bodytext">So when Jesus<n id="1" /> had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the table<n id="2" /> again and said to them, &#8220;Do you understand<n id="3" /> what I have done for you?
